I’m quite happy with this. He doesn’t immediately improve the team but having showed last season he could be effective in the EPL he provides competition and depth on the RW. I get those who don’t fancy Johnson will be disappointed but Johnson is still improving and we would never see him reach his potential if we bought in a £70m star who immediately relegated Johnson to a bit-part role.

We have a young team which needs a bit of patience and support but I’m excited to see them get better through this season and beyond.

Remember that time we signed that unheard of goalkeeper rather David Raya who we were told was our no 1 target all summer?
Remember that time we signed that lesser heard of defender Micky van de Ven rather Tapsoba who we were told was our no 1 target all summer?

I get your point.

But Tapsoba was an integral part of an unbeaten Leverkusen side who won their league for the first time and Raya won the Golden Glove last season.

Wtf just happened o_O

I’m still trying to process this. Certainly put up the money for this one. He’s most certainly an exciting talent and very versatile but his end product and decision making needs a lot work. Still raw but is fast, technical and dangerous. Not sure how I feel about this tbh especially if he’s our only attacking addition. He might be an inspired buy tho.

I’ll try and write a detailed outline of him later when I have time.
I’m just amazed you don’t have one off the shelf and ready to go

But given we are basically at limit of non-HG players, does he provide enough to take up that spot? Considering we now have Son, Odobert, Kulu, Johnson, Moore and Yang from Jan, plus Solomon if he doesn't move, who can all play wide. Even Richarlison can play wide having played there a lot for Watford iirc?
He qualifies as U21, until 28/11/25.

As he joined Burnley on the 12/08/23, he wont have played in England for 3 years before 21st birthday, so wont be classed as HG long term.

The squad clearly needs to some long term management on that front.

I don't think you get my point.

People moaned and whined about us not getting our "no. 1 target" last season, when the guys we signed instead have been fantastic, and from Ange's comments, became the primary targets when we spoke to them and the "no. 1 target". Vicario and VDV worked out really well, so maybe this is similar.

Perhaps Neto and Eze didn't pass the Ange character test, and so we moved on to other options that are a better fit?

Maybe I’m missing something, but surely the revenue now generated by the club should be enough to compete with the top teams for the top players. I thought that was one of the main reasons for building the new stadium: to buy elite players and compete for major honors.
Even for the biggest clubs in the world it sometimes makes more sense buying the talent.

Look at Real Madrid. They bought Camavinga, Arda Guler, Endrick, Vinicius etc. super young.

We've also spent over 120m this summer.

I still think it's an odd transfer and I don't know what is the plan there.
Plan will surely be to play him mostly at RW as he’s a eight footed winger and we don’t have inverted wingers, we’re looking for someone with pace who can go outside, which this guy has in spades.

But the fact he also has played across the attacking front line fits in well with our forwards ideal profile of flexibility.

Neto went to Chelsea, so that alone means he fails any character test. There’s only one reason to go that valet case of a club right now and it’s not for footballing purposes.

Given he is the only unique winger we have (who can dribble & go past) , IMO he will surprisingly see more minutes than expected

Spurs fans all summer: "we need to buy a dribbly, tricky, pacy winger. It doesn't matter who, but we need to fill that profile that's missing in the squad. We have to back the manager!"

*Spurs buy the dribbly, tricky, pacy winger that our data led recruitment team have identified and Ange has approved*

Spurs fans: "NO NOT THAT ONE!!!"

Hasn't really worked put too well for us, buy I have no issue in bringing in these youngsters who are going to add value long term.

Rhe future is certainly looking good.

Fuck Neto and Eze, let's see what this guy can do! Looks very good and has a quick feet and nice dribbling skills, also played in premier league, many reasons to get excited!

Yeah, he caused us loads of problems. Tied all our defenders up in knots.

Fee sounds right for somebody rated like he is, and I imagine Burnley were happy to take it in stages, which makes it so much easier than an Eze for example. Also, I would imagine his wages aren't huge, and I'm sure we've heard time and again, that wages can be as much of a problem as the fee itself.

Very pleased with the signing myself, despite being reminded about this message I put in our draft fantasy league group back in March.

Defender’s nightmare, imagine the step overs!
