Every player benefits from consistent starts and minutes on the pitch with his team-mates. Janssen didn't get that, understandably when we have Kane, and IMO Poch did give up on him too quickly.

Ultimately though with Kane in the team you're just never going to get up to your true form and it's going to mean a lack of confidence and consistent niggling injuries - both of which are just dead-ends for a striker. You'll never get going in that situation.

Look at Llorente's struggles until Kane got injured - and he is twice the player Janssen will ever be (no disrespect to Janssen) - a Spanish international with massive experience, proven at every level and it wasn't until he got consistent games that he could show his ability.

I pity any back-up striker at Spurs. While Kane is here you just won't ever be a real success. And that's fair because Kane will always be better than anyone else we can get.
We need a right-sided Son (not Lucas) to complete our attack.

you feel he was under appreciated?

By management yes, certainly but not by the fans. I felt he was never really given a chance to get any momentum with his game time. Anyone who scores 27 goals in 34 games (albeit in the Eredivisie) has to be a very decent quality striker who just needed to be coached at a higher level to bring what he already had to the EPL and develop his talents to a higher level.

I guess you have to go with what the Head Coach says and for all we know, he didn't adapt himself to our training methods very well, but simply as an observer who was desperate for him to succeed at THFC, no, I don't think he was given the right signals by the club.

If he had just scored that sitter vs Palace in his 2nd game, I reckon he'd have kicked on.

I don't think anyone's saying he's particularly good - it's just a fact that he never got a consistent run of injury-free games to prove his worth.

Had we finally not moved him on in the summer we’d of used him this season with the injuries to son and Kane.

It’s the danger of buying players for big money who have only had a season or two in the top division in what’s not a major league. Seems we haven’t learnt our lesson though and bought Ndombele too who had a similar career path before joining us.

The Dutch league may not be the best compared to many others but be honest, it has also introduced players to us like Suarez, Van Nistelrooy, Van Der Saar, Van Persie, Frenkie De Jong and De Ligt, so the players are always there, it's just a question of finding the right ones and being lucky that way. Let's hope Ziyech is more from the Janssen side of the debate than Van Nistelrooy.

Hands on hearts, Poch cocked up with Janssen (if he ever bought him in the first place) but no manager in the history of football has ever got all his signings right.

If Janssen had been snapped up by a smaller club a la Southampton or Burnley he's probably have done alright as they'd be more likely to give him a run of games and play to his strengths. Unfortunately for him we played a highly technical possession game back then (and still didn't create that many chances) and expected him to come into a new team, a new league and start smashing them in like Aitch does.

He had a great season year before he came to us though and for strikers it often is about the rub off the green and it just didn't go his way not least keeping injury free.

Wish him well all the same.

He was very limited. Lacked pace and any anticipation, which are the key ingredients needed to be half decent

Funny story actually Swansea were offered him at some point,

But unknown to spurs Swansea had scouted him before we signed him and the words out of the mouth of the Swansea scout we’re

“who even sanctioned that deal for Spurs should be ashamed they’ve just gambled limited player can’t see why they think he will make it”

although Swansea didn’t do much better when they sighed Borja Baston who the said scout rated higher than Michu ??

Like I said before, every manger in the history of football has bought his fair share of duds. (Ferguson bought Kleberson. Say no more).
