Have to say i'm a little worried how he's looked for the last few months. Legs have almost gone, a la Jan style. Seems we might have mistimed the dishing out of the new contract.

I guess the only saving factor might be that there has been no worthwhile DCM in front of him to help him out.

Amazing how this thread has stayed quiet yet the Sanchez thread is active, mental how people are prepared to put up with his performances for the past year or so.

Sanchez is literally our only centre back who can run faster than a jog. Toby, i think, needs to be 3rd or 4th choice centre back next year which is going to sting a little with his new wages

Unless Toby stops messing around, Tanganga and Sanchez are soon to become our main CB pair.

It should be that, I thought seeing Toby get out sprinted by Grealish last week was bad but Giroud as well? Legs gone. I would worry about us aerially with Tanganga and Sanchez and also leadership but id rather take the chance.

Where are all the idiots that called for Toby to immediately get whatever he wants, slating Levy for not giving it immediately  - prob in the new manager thread:LOL:

Poch wanted him out

Levy and most of our supporters shat themselves at the very thought

Not looking such a stupid idea now is it. Probably like most of our previous managers thoughts on how he wanted the shape of the squad to evolve

Shame our chairman couldn’t back him

Because of the contract situation not because of his form/ability - Poch was still happy to play him in the majority of matches last year, it was Vertonghen that most were wrong on.

And talking about backing Levy backed Poch by not sacking him 2 months before he should have gone.

Must admit I'm not as confident in Alder as I was even last season, feel he's been at fault for a fair few goals. I think if Sanchez was making similar errors then they'd be extremely critical, obviously Alder has some credit in the bank but as I say I'm not as confident in Alder this season.

jesus mate keep up

Ah yes of course, wrd man of the people :D

If there's one thing I've learnt from this it's if I keep incessantly posting nonsense at such a high output that I should land on a correct opinion now and then:LOL:.

In all seriousness, I said before the contract that I felt like the new contract would be good quick PR for Spurs to show them backing the new manager and also building on the notion that the old manager had lost the players as evidenced by how quickly they got a new deal through once he left. Reality of situation was that Alderweireld had a 2nd kid on the way and no offers in the summer so it was an easy decision for him to sign and now long term I'm not sure if that'll be a good thing. I'm just glad that Sanchez has been able to get a run of games so he can develop and Tanganga has surprised by just how ready he looks. I reckon Toby signing a new deal probably ends any notion of signing a new CB in the summer though even though I'd say we need one along with the aforementioned Tanganga and Sanchez especially if Foyth is shown the door because he didn't perform in 1 half of football this season.

Not what he was but still our best defender. Problem we've got is that where we had wanyama and dembele offering that much needed protection for the back 4 and 2 decent full backs we don't have that now. Winks doesn't offer any protection at all and hes the deep lying midfielder currently and our full backs are now quite frankly bottom half/championship quality.

Sanchez has surpassed him now.

There is something in the argument of contract over form but it all leads to where we are and maybe Toby’s got his pipe n slippers on now he’s seen off the old manager and got a new contract!!

As for Levy backing Poch by not getting rid of him earlier, I’m not so sure it wasn’t more calculated for a couple of reasons.

1 He needed the balance of Poch in/out to tip in his favour

2. Was probably speaking with Jose’s people for ages and finally got the green light

In saying all this Toby is only 30 and as far as I know not had a serious injury so should have a good few years left in him for a CD
