Considering that with the potential contract expirations we would have needed to buy 3-4 defenders this summer, locking down one of Toby or Jan was absolutely essential. Well done to the club.

Long shot but would love to see him paired with an athletic and physically dominant CB partner like Koulibaly to cover up for his slightly declining athleticism. Let him focus on being a focal point for progressing the ball out of the back.

Or just build Sanchez up through consistent game time and technical training to help him with the minor tweaks he needs to make to be physically dominant?

There was something about how Poch went into bat for him with Levy and managed to get an offer that was higher than had previously been offered but then Toby, on the advice of his father (I think?), turned around and asked for more. Leading to Poch feeling betrayed etc. If I'm remembering right, ITK implied that *something* happened with is wife that was only going to be revealed when Toby left (I wonder if it counts that Poch has left).

I must say I'm tempted to subscribe to The Athletic. Their articles are great.

You get quite a bit on the app - podcasts, articles, Q&A and so on. The ones that draw me in are the biography-type snippets, like from ex-players about a particular time under a particular manager etc. that you don't get in pretty much any other sports/news site.

I paid £19.99 for a year, which is roughly £1.65 per month, and I figured it's an irrelevant amount if I read one magazine-quality article per week

And who could begrudge him that as evens out with the £50k he’s been on the last few years.

Been utterly professional throughout all the speculation, always put in a shift and has been duly rewarded.

Just hoping Jan now gets a two year contract.

Mourinho likes experience and this can also help develop our young CBs for the future.

Great piece of business, so chuffed ?
He may have been on the pitch but off it he may have been one of those instrumental in undermining our best manager in a generation

Trix has implied (or I have inferred) that many in the club blame Poch for what has gone wrong this season. That may be the case and I am not ITK so I wouldn't know.

However, I am not naive enough to just assume that the origin of the ITK is not the same people who have been anti-Poch or have sought to undermine him. Or indeed, club PR trying to ensure that fans don't blame Levy or the club or hold it against JM
(FWIW I do believe that DL found it agonising to have to let Poch go but felt he had no choice in the end)

So apparently the athletic said he was delighted when we sacked poch. Im fucking tired of media trying to cause unrest. Let sleeping dogs lie. We know there was a rift between the 2. Poch is gone(for now). Toby is here and for a few more years. Get behind whose here.

Ive said my piece on the contract but now its time for me to get behind him and hope he can improve back to his best(which was fucking phenomenal).

When was this article? If it's the most recent one, they definately did not - he was excited to work with José.

When news reached Alderweireld that Pochettino was to be succeeded by Jose Mourinho, he couldn’t hide his excitement. On the evening Pochettino left and word spread that Mourinho would replace him, Alderweireld was on international duty with Belgium — helping the team thrash Cyprus 6-1 in Brussels. He told his countrymen that with Mourinho arriving, he might just be staying in north London after all.

The article in the Athletic suggests the blame is more with Poch as Toby asked for market rate which Poch took offensively. 12 months ago we, SC, were speculating he wanted 200k now he's just signed for 100k pw

I think the story was that Poch managed to get Levy to offer 110,000 pounds and they all shook hands on the deal. Then VvD got his 170,000 per week from Liverpool, and Toby's dad wanted something like 150,000, and that pissed off both Levy and Poch.

My issue is with him for the last year is why he only plays forward when it involves hitting a 50 yard ball but when it involves passing a 10 yard ball forward he turns around and passes it backward or to the side.
