Brilliant news!

Opened up Instagram a few minutes ago and actually said wow out loud ?

Spurs media were such a tease with the first twitter vid ?

Great news. Still one of the best defenders in the PL.

Says a lot about his relationship with Poch. Whilst they were professional about it, something went wrong between the pair.

Aside from his huge defensive qualities, he is so essential to our attacking style under Jose. Against Bournemouth he was like an NFL QB pinging assists from the centre circle. Defenders with that ability very hard to come by. Terrific business this!

Awesome.

Just saw his thread under SpursChat (not Transfers) and it sent a huge grin across my face.

I am very happy with this, but it’s slightly bittersweet as it probably means no more Jan. 3 years more for someone already 30, that’s very unlike Levy. I think extending Jan too, when we have Sanchez and Foyth pushing to play more an as I understand it at least a couple of highly rated young centre backs, I think we are no watching the Vertonghen fairwell tour.

Not overly enamoured by this tbh.

Edit: To add some depth to that statement, we've had two/three years of this contract saga where its obvious the goal for him/his people have been the contract running down (and either using the low fee clause or it terminating) and increasing control of being able to move on to bigger things or a bumper payday. Injuries and whatnot have disrupted that along the way and for whatever reason it hasn't happened. To me it now looks like a player out of options, turned 30 and not as good as he was (lets be honest) and declining, and deciding this is the best gig he can get.

Yeah he's still a decent PL centre back and it's good to have one signed up, but forgive me if it leaves a bit of a sour taste.

Not going to lie I also had to quadruple check it when I saw it on Twitter because of how much fake BS goes on.

Think that will be down to Jan's happiness in the new LB / LCB role - if he accepts that is his position under Jose, he may get a couple years . Do need an alternative option with pace though, someone who can match/keep up with speedy wingers. If it weren't for his goal, I imagine he'd be having nightmares over Traore for weeks

Happy with Toby though, means one less position to be concerned about in the summer with him, Dave and Foyth. Ideally get Tanganga out on loan and its pretty settled. Funds can be concentrated elsewhere

Just watched the little two minute Twitter club video of Alderweireld's reaction to signing a new contract. He's wearing a jacket and shirt with no tie (all fine so far)... and the shirt buttons done up right to the collar! :wtf: I know he's only just signed the contract, but maybe we should be looking to move him on after all.
