Its all very, very odd, his agent has bound to have loads of contact from clubs asking what sort of contract he is looking for, now either Toby has said he isn't interested in these clubs or the money offered isn't enough. There must be a club who has said we will offer you an absolute fortune if you are free, he is taking a risk here he is an injury away from being clubless.
I agree. I can't get my head around it. At 25 million it's a great deal even at his age. As you say, perhaps he's been offered a great free agent deal next summer.

If he has there must be some sort of pre contract done, lets face it he is older and injuries have crept in.

Just curious, why does everyone seem to think he'll go to Ajax after us? I'd be extremely shocked if he'd even consider them at this stage of his career. He could easily sign at a massive club, or a Chinese club on mega money with a signing bonus worth millions, play there for 3 years, and then go for a year or 2 at Ajax after he's made the big dollars.

"I don't want to make too popular statements, but [a return] is certainly 100% in my head. I have had wonderful times here [in Ajax] with three championships, but also lows. But my family was happy here too."

Doesn’t mean he wants to join now though. He’s in the prime of his career, he could easily join an elite club for 3-4 years and then see out the last of his playing days at 35+ with Ajax.

True, I'm just saying that this is a pretty fair reason for at least someone to suggest why he may move to Ajax. I have no idea where his future lies but also can't say I care if it's not with us.

Or maybe he just wants to stay at Spurs. He was captain against Juve. Poch would not have done that if he still had a problem with him. Maybe all involved have resolved any issues and all want him to stay.

He's leaving next summer on a free to get a fat signing on bonus. I have no qualms with that, he has been the utmost professional on the pitch and to the media about us and his future so should he choose to do this in 12 months time I have no problems with it.

Would have been gutted if left on some shitty clause for £25M. Actually would prefer it if he leaves for free. Still a very a likeable player/person despite what ever has been said and done in the background.

Can he do that without informing the club if he is still under contract?

When Herc said Toby's not going anywhere this season he also said his reasons were very genuine.
Perhaps he does want to go to Ajax next but knows they can't afford both a transfer fee and a wage that he'd be happy with. So he's seeing out his contract so Ajax can afford him on a free transfer.
If so I respect that. He'd be following his heart not the money.

I dont thinks its that strange that the other top clubs isnt coming for him.
He 30, he would probably want (at least) a 3 year deal, with a massiv wage.
Seems like some of the clubs are learning a lesson or two regarding "old" players and massiv wages.

Its all good for us innit? Would love for him to stay, even if its just for one more season. If im not mistaking he will be turning 31 during next season, so if he stays i think its fair to say we have got the best of toby.

I have no idea why no one has paid the 25mio, no matter what wages he wants.

Still a great defender and a lot of clubs both in England and elsewhere around the world could massively do with him, whatever his wage demands.

However, him staying would also be a massive win for us.

Interesting point. Would explain why the clause hasn’t been triggered, because he won’t sign a long term deal with anyone but Ajax.

Does his clause expire at the end of today or 5pm UK time (given that’s when the transfer window closes)?
