He would, and had done it before on principle. Due to amortisation and the fact that we paid £12m for him, his value on the balance sheet is less than £5m, so even £25m at the worst is a large profit

Surely a player is only as valuable as the price someone wants to pay. It reminds me of the many conversations overheard about house prices and how much they are worth 'on paper'. Great when prices are rocketing but when there is a downtown, as there has been post brexit, you have to take your losses .... though of course you may have made a real profit and the loss is only notional compared to what you might have got had you sols at a certain point in time.

So I would agree that even at £25m selling Toby would be a profit + him playing for over several years contributed to us having the best defence in the country and so finish higher than we had historically done without him. That in itself earned us more money so in fact it's all good news. If he has to go now then sure haggle to get the best deal you can but just accept the market sell and re-invest the money. Players come and go, even great players, but the club is what matters

How much of this will be Man U knowing that if they leave it very late then it will screw up our buying plans?

They would be cutting off their nose to spite their face and the rest of their head. They are absolutely desperate for a CB, probably 2. If they don’t sign one Jose will be on the war path and their season could be a disaster

If we don’t sign anyone we will be ok, like we was last year. It’s not ideal, but they will be in a worse position than is IMO

Toby will go to united and we are hoping for Martial to come in return but it will probably be luke Shaw we get

Look if Toby is away to United, then id say there is a 95% chance Martial is coming to us.
There is no way Levy would allow Toby going if Martial didnt come our way.
We couldn't even get a youth player as part of the Walker sale.

I'm sorry but i don't have any faith in this sale - really don't think we'll get anyone in return.
Man U are in the driving seat on this one and Levy knows he needs to start paying off the stadium quick time......plus Toby doesn't even wanna be here anymore!

This window sucks big time!!

Guess we’ll be finding out shortly, history dictates you’re wrong though. I hope you aren’t.

Sorry but that is plain bonkers. It is still 40 million we cannot spend on new players or improved contracts.

No one we get would be as good as Toby. We're not in dire straits so I'd rather we don't make us worse, make our rivals better, and end up inflating Levy's balance sheet.

Just cannot see any way of defending selling him to them.

Yep, no one would be better than Toby, a player that doesn't want to be here, a player the manager would rather not be here and also a player that apparently disrespected the club and possibly his team mates per hints from ITK. Recipe for success right there.

For £40m I’d rather keep him for a year and sell for the rerelease clause of £25m next summer, IF Pochettino and him can make up of course.

I really hope that levy's clear need to 'win' every negotiation will prevent us from letting United get their way on this when they have a player we want and who (apparently) wants to come to us.
