Yeah I really hope this is true. Looks a good CB to me and he's played with Jan before obviously.

The fact he has a real understanding with Jan and a year's PL experience - both massive pluses. Vertonghen, Alderweireld, Dier and Wmmer look good to be as as a CB foursome. Just get rid of Kaboul and Chiriches.

Oh yay. Another CB signing. Forgive me if im not jumping for joy like the rest of you. Feel bad for CCV and Veljkovic. Dominate the u20 WC, and look more than ready but get shifted down even more. Classic Spurs.

So this is now 3 positions where we're blocking the path(or trying to) for our youth this summer.

Mauricio Pochettino. Champion of the youth:rolleyes:

*i say 3 because if we bring in schneiderlin, we NEED to sell 3 CM's. At most, we'll only sell 2. More likely though, we'll struggle to move 1.

While I kind of understand the move, I do feel for Dier a bit. Last season he came into a new team in a new league and won the starting job over Kaboul's prem experience, Fazio's European experience, and Chiriches's insanity and played very well, even when asked to play out of position. Now we're going to sign a young CB on his side that will expect to walk into the team and be a starter? A little harsh - although personally I would not be surprised if Dier outplays him within a year or two. Always found Toby just a little overrated.

May just be me but I would be more in favour of shifting Kaboul, Chirches and Fazio, and using CCV as our 4th choice CB rather than to go out and buy another CB. As it could possibly hinder the development of Dier, CCV and Wimmer

I want this signing to happen...... BUT

we have a lot of selling to do

If we sign him then I suspect the following (nothing groundbreaking)

Sell Kaboul
Sell vlad
Have Verts, Toby, Dier and Fazio fight it out for starting places
Wimmer to be in and around the squad but introduced slowly (like we wanted to do with Dier last year)

With these 5 CB we have a mixture of abilities and age.

Verts - strong, calm under pressure, good on the ball, brings the ball out well, quite quick and experienced

Fazio - very strong, beast in the air, good at calling the line, experienced

Dier - strong, fast, good on the ball, good pass/cross, good in the air, Loves a tackle and seems willing to listen and follow instructions

Toby - fast, good on the ball, good at interceptions, experienced with playing in organised defences,

Wimmer - raw, very strong, leader (although young) good in the air, ok on the ball, no nonsense defender. (Him and Dier could be a very strong partnership for years)

Anyway... Let's get this signing done and sell the other two

This must be very tempting for Pochettino as he would have a ready made partnership.

Having Wimmer and Dier as back up can't be bad. Veljkovic will go out on loan i'm sure. Fazio may even stay.

Not quick, not good in the air, not a leader, not particularly aggressive and doesn't seem to organise all in all a cracking signing and just what we don't need, either buy a proper cb or let the boys we've got have a run at it, what are dier and wimmer gonna think never mind fazio(must be off if this happens?

Surely we'll only sign Toby if we're planning on getting rid of Fazio too. We don't need 5 CBs and Toby would only join if he's a first teamer, so keeping Fazio would send an awful message to Dier and Wimmer, not to mention all the youth prospects.

Funny how perceptions differ. Someone else just said that he's fast!

Veljkovic's best position is defensive midfielder IMO anyway and Carter-Vickers is not ready yet they're both extremely young.

Spurs are definitely interested in Alderweireld.

Said to me personally in reply to the Chelsea-Dembele link.

I'd be pretty miffed if I was dier if this one came off.

Players who play for a top 5 premier league side and don't expect competition aren't the sort of players we should have in our squad.

We all want the club to break into the CL and win things and to do that we need excellent squad depth. There is room for everyone.

That would be fine if Eric didn't have a good first season with us, but he did and all of a sudden he could be pushed down the the pecking order to make room for a new signing? Personally I don't like that approach, nothing against Toby, I think he's a good player, but rather have Eric starting at centre back especially after his good first season with us, meaning he now has a bit of experience in the PL and should in theory get better.

Onions I guess.
