Honestly, I wouldn’t be against signing him permanently as our 4th choice winger.

He is what he is and has his faults, but he skins fullbacks easily and can cross it well.

Seems a no brainer for me if he took a drop in wage and we got him on a free, or even for like 10m

Mikey isn’t ready, Son is declining rapidly, Johnson isn’t great, and who knows about Odobert.

Just my two cents
All depends on wages, if he would take a huge pay cut then yes. It all depends on solomun and Gil though if Solomun stays fit and has a resurgence would rather give him a chance and if Gil manages to get sold then maybe.
My worry with signing him permanently it would leave us with Son, (nexr season likely his last), Johnson, odebert, Moore, then werner. We could keep him as injury cover I guess but I still think we need to go all out on an elite winger.

That's the question for me.

If we think Odobert or Moore are going to get up to that level soon then keeping Werner as a stopgap while they develop makes sense.

If they're not thought of that highly or it's going to take a long time then looking elsewhere for a higher level player makes sense.

Yeah it’s a tough one. Plus do we loan them out or keep them? My worry is about odebert staying fit tbh and he’ll have lost basically a whole season to injury. Wouldn’t be surprised to see us do what we’ve done with Solomun and loan him out for a season to see how he gets back up to speed.
If we do, then I can see us loaning timo again if the plan isn’t to go big and buy a winger

I think signing a rw of the quality desired would be the best way to go as I think Johnson can be good on the left too. His main strength is being at the back post for crosses so in theory left or right that part of his game should be just as effective.

shame we didn’t get Neto as he’s good on both sides, someone good on both sides would be excellent

You're probably right. The trouble is buying ready made quality is very difficult. Even when you get a Prem ready player in their prime, they can still take time to settle into a new club.

We currently have Son, Johnson, Odobert, Solanke, Richarlison and Moore for the attacking positions. Plus Werner if we keep him.

To compete at the top we definitely either need one of the younger players to step up quickly or bring someone in.

I believe Richarlison is likely to leave at the end of the season so will need to buy someone.

Yeah these players are highly sought after, not exactly the kind of market conditions we tend to thrive in

I'm no expert on the best players in the world.

Looking at this list, Kvaratskhelia is the only one who appears to be at a club that we could possibly be an attractive option for the player.

Personally, I'd love it if we went all in on a player like that. We'd likely fail due to competition for the signature though.

Odobert is established, we seen his quality 1-2 games in. His injury masks what we already know. Moore is still only 17, with 6 senior appearances, we need to give him time. Odobert has over 30 senior appearances at club level. Can’t put the two players in the same category.

Sure, I probably shouldn't added him. Was just making the point that 3 young players we have high hopes for appear to be more than just this season away from being up to level to be regular first team squad members.
Fair enough, I wouldn't have included Dorrington as on the cusp at all though. With injuries, he'll be behind Phillips, even Vuskovic in terms of CBs, and then in terms of other players generally there's probably a few who might make the step ahead of him.

nO chance, he said in the summer if he were to leave it would only be to a barca/madrid level of a club
