And to the nice guys in the chat down rating anything negative about Timo - he’s not going to shag you
I think in the main, what's being 'downrated' are abusive, pathetic and childish comments being made about him. Clown, wanker, twat, shit, toilet and all the rest of it.

Thankfully, the number of people who cannot express themselves without going there has been decreasing of late.

He's getting worse. He couldn't pass or dribble today. He can't be making the bench over Spence if today's squad is a pointer to what Ange is gonna be picking when mostly everyone is available.
Spence was injured. I think once all ate fit he will struggle to make the bench. Odobert should be back soon.

I wonder if we get a penalty in a game if we'd give it to him to let him get his confidence back - like Arsenal did with Havertz. Like it or not, with Odobert injured (and still raw) and Moore only 17 and needing to be protected, we need Werner to perform.

Would love to see some kind of retribution story for him like when Torres scored in the CL semi against Barcelona

my observation is that (other than confidence issues) he doesnt seem to "click" with his team mates, there's no understanding between them of what each other is going to do, hence the mistakes

contrast that to deki's flicks and passes - of cos, most of it is down to deki's footballing intelligence of knowing wats going on, but also that deki knows what his teammates are going to do

werner seems to just want to execute instructions given to him without understanding what his team mates want / are going to do

i noticed this already in previous matches where udogie and him couldnt find each other properly.

I suspect that he's an introvert who doesnt talk much with his team mates in training so nobody understands him

Was absolutely zero reason for this clown to get minutes over Mikey today.

Can’t even do the fundamentals right. Reality is he’s gone in 6 months and we need to focus on developing other players with futures at the club

Why the fuck do you have to call him a clown?

No need ffs.

From what I've seen, Werner has been poor this season. But I think Ange reckons, based on his experience and overall potential to contribute, he's still a better bet than e.g. Mikey Moore. And that it may hurt Moore's development if he falls short in a high pressure league game.

That will change if Werner's slump continues. But for now, I think he comes on as first lw sub in the league and starts in Europa. Moore and Odobert (when fit) will get more minutes tho and, if they consistently outperform Werner, roles will reverse.

To me it seems only Maddison sees his movement and gets the ball to him so he can run on to it at speed. This is when Werner is most dangerous.

No one else in the team seems to understand how to pass to him. You are wasting your time passing to him directly or worse behind him to him. This just stops his natural movement and seemingly he no longer has the ability to trick his way out of tight positions the way Son can.

His confidence is shot so it makes sense for Ange to throw him on when 4-1 up against 10 as there’s a high probability he’d have chances to score. I have no issue with that at all. I thought he destroyed Veltman last week, just a shame the final action didn’t come off. Is he the answer long term? Of course he isn’t and he’ll be gone in the summer, but if we stay in the cups we’ll need a deep squad and he does worry defences.

Long term we have young options to replace him, but while he’s here I’m hoping for a Brennan style redemption.

Totally agree. Soon as he came on, I felt we lost our attacking edge on the side. He couldn’t pass and actually gave West Ham the ball to set up a few attacks.
He has the the skills to be a top player again, but it shouldn’t be at the cost of Moore. He would do good at a Bournemouth, where the pressure wouldnt be as high.

I actually don’t hate him as a starter but coming off the bench he really offers nothing. He’s effective when he’s got time to ease into the game and is a good link-up player who relies heavily on his teammates, not an impact player by any means.

You mentioned Spence - we have a situation with Timo, where if Ange had bizarrely brought on Spence (I know he wasn’t on the bench, this is hypothesis) instead of Werner, and played the right-back in the left wing position I’m confident he would have made at least two goal scoring opportunities where Timo fluffed it. I’ve never seen anything like this dip in footballing ability in fifty years watching football. I’m genuinely sad for the lad. In the stadium there was a big roar when he got his first touch of the ball and then a massive uuurrgh when he fluffed it. Funny at the time but it’s not nice for him, it must hurt.

If we had to make the pragmatic choice ( if there is a break clause in his loan deal ) to cancel the loan in January, so we can replace him with Spence in the EL squad, I would do it.

Spence can cover RB, LB and at a push RW, if we're down on options. Just feel Timo needs to go somewhere less challenging for him to build his confidence back up.

With Son and Richarlison back plus Ange clearly rating Mikey and wanting to give him minutes, I don't see the point now.

He may have faults, but didn't Johnson prior to a run of starts?

Magical, big impact sub's ended with David Fairclough's retirement from the game. (Google is you friend).

Like A&C stated being abusive towards any Spurs player does and should bring vitriol from other fans in here not because players shouldn't be criticized, but because it points out to us all the immaturity of some in here to hold an adult debate.

Werner was prepared to come to Spurs for a season's loan, knowing that he would not be an automatic starter ahead of Son, and now likely on his return from injury Odobert, but for his apparent failings in the eyes of some, so far Ange still prefers him at this stage of the season.

That is good enough for me.
