Really feel for him because I’m convinced there’s a gem of a player in there. He works his socks off and is quite a positive influence to your play, until he gets to the final third.

His final ball, and finishing is completely missing, it’s obviously a confidence thing too.

I do think that the time is rapidly approaching where he should be losing his minutes to Moore and Odobert.

for me it is more than just a confidence issue. He has had chances in the cup and europe, as well as the league now, but isnt improving. When we have the likes of Moore, and the returning Son, Richy and Odobert, he shouldnt really be getting much game time as he simply isnt good enough.

I think 95% of it is confidence issues tbh.

I feel for him, he's definitely broken. The poor form in front of goal has affected his overall game which (finishing aside) is usually pretty good. He doesn't seem the sort that can play himself into form, I think we need to cancel the loan and give the minutes to Moore

we need to stop this 'there is a player in him' sentiment, his 28 and completely washed up and past his peak, his finished as a player at a top level

My 6yr genuinely has a better first touch than him. Everything he did when he came on was wrong. We are not invested in him, he is not our player. He is earning a fortune and stealing a leaving. Get rid, he is absolute shit

This is spot on. Lad contributes last season and clearly has the skill set to do it this season but is just lacking all confidence. At some point we will need to make the call that he drops behind Moore in the pecking order.

We are not a centre for rehabilitation for struggling footballers. We are trying to behave like an elite club. If you can’t stand up to the pressure then you’re out. This attitude is so engrained in our club it’s no wonder we win nothing.

Moore should have been the sub today, not Werner. He’s the one who took his chance last time and that’s what it needs to be about.

If we have a realistic wing forward target in January I’d be looking to move him on.

Unfortunately for Timo I think the time is coming to an end. With Sonny back, Richy back, Odobert returning and the emergence of Moore in the first team I really don’t think he should be getting on the bench.

When all is fit the bench could realistically look like:

Forster, Radu, Gray, Bentancur, Sarr, Bergvall, Moore, Odobert & Richarlison.

Give over. We aren’t trying to rehabilitate Werner. We are looking to get his confidence up. The sub was the right one today. If he has got one we are likely to see an upturn in permanence in front of goal. Werner always works hard and contributes to how we play, we just need him being more effective in the final third. Ange didn’t right thing for our season overall.

At some point we will have to give the opportunity to Moore but the decision making was logical and fine today. People just don’t like Timo.

We have different opinions. That’s fine 🙂

He really is a weird one, isn't he? Look at his record for Leipzig before he went to Chelsea - 78 goals in 127 games according to Wikipedia. Considering he's not even an out-and-out striker and he wasn't playing for Bayern those are seriously impressive stats. You don't produce those sort of numbers unless you've got some genuine talent.

The problem is that was 2016-2020 and it's 2024 now. This isn't a short-term issue. He's been struggling for years. And realistically you have to conclude that the reason we were able to pick him up on loan is because Leipzig had given up on trying to "rehabilitate" him. A few people have said that he just needs a goal or two to get his confidence back, but the problem is that he actually scored a few last season, but it doesn't seem to have made any difference.

It's a shame because he's a hard worker and he seems like a genuinely nice bloke, but at this point I can't help feeling that Chelsea broke him permanently.

Was absolutely zero reason for this clown to get minutes over Mikey today.

Can’t even do the fundamentals right. Reality is he’s gone in 6 months and we need to focus on developing other players with futures at the club

He's getting worse. He couldn't pass or dribble today. He can't be making the bench over Spence if today's squad is a pointer to what Ange is gonna be picking when mostly everyone is available.

On a purely football level we should be prioritising Moore over Werner for the long term future of the club, but on a human level I'm so desperate for Werner to hit the back of the net. He seems like a really decent bloke who's having an absolute nightmare trying to get some kind of form. It's quite sad to watch. No idea why I feel that way about a loanee who once played for a hated rival but there we go.
