Frustrating!!!

These are huge chances that decide games and against the better teams will cost us, big time

You cannot keep missing these types of chances if you have any aspirations to win something and/or finish top 4

Exactly this, because we’re winning, it’s not affecting some us as much.
But as soon as his misses cost us points, there will be nowhere to hide.

If we look at highlights of Dele five years ago he looks a quality player. Some players get better over time and some players get worse. Werner has clearly got worse, it’s not even up for debate. To think he’ll get anywhere close to the level he was scoring at before is misguided, it just isn’t going to happen.

Best case is he doesn’t get the opportunity to score but continues to play okay on the left while son is out because the minute we don’t win and he’s missed another big chance is when some of the people easily forgiving him will not be so forgiving and some of the boo boys in the crowd will capitalise on the opportunity.
The causes of Dele's decline are well documented at this point, and nothing to do with his football ability.

In Tino's defence according to PL stats on their website , big chances missed this season by Timo is 2, big chances missed by Solanke this season is 6 but he has scored 2. Come on Timo wake up , maybe try chipping the goalie. :)

It amazes me that so many fail to see the bigger picture, in that we look really well balanced as a team with his skill set in it.

Yes the misses are frustrating but we should acknowledge the affect he's having for the greater good of the team and get behind the lad.
Ange has just come out and said exactly this mate.

He’s also said it was only 14 days ago that everyone was writing off Solanke & Brennan and Maddison that Timo is playing well ans contributing to the teams and that yes goals help but it’s not only about goals.

The Australian said: "It was 14 days ago those questions were asked of Brennan. It's where we're at in this world. We just think, 'he's missed two chances, so he's hopeless'. No, he's not hopeless. All footballers at this level are very, very good footballers. In terms of his general play, I think his last two games have been really good for us. He's been taking on his players, getting in the right areas.

He also added: "Yes, goals help. We've seen that with Brennan. But that doesn't mean he's not a good player and that's where I get really annoyed when they put everything on that moment to say he's not a good player. Of course he's a good player. He's a fantastic player. Scoring goals would help him, would help us, yes. But we'll persevere with him because I still think he's contributing to the team."

Yes there are but son has missed his last 3 one on ones… other players have missed big chances against big teams. Moore has scored zero goals in men’s football who’s to say he’ll take the chances? Or even be there to have the chances?

I’m not convinced that he will improve his scoring with us. He failed with Chelsea for this reason. However I think there is space in this squad for someone with his skill set. He is abit like emile heskey back in the day. There are better players than him for sure but the same can be said of nearly everyone in our squad so I don’t see that as an argument against him.

But he never has his entire career…
If he had, he wouldn’t have been available at the price he was. Probably wouldn’t be here at all.

The question isn't whether he’s perfect, cos we know he isnt, it’s whether he‘s good for the team or not.

Ange obviously believes he is.

He looks nothing like Emile Heskey. Completely different hair style. 😬

We can't keep allowing him to miss the chances hoping others bail him out but I do feel if he can put one away, he will get some confidence back. You can see as soon as he gets in a 1 v 1 he looks defeated already. Issue is, I don't know how we get him to score unless we somehow round the keeper on the goal line and pass it to him....even then I wouldn't be confident.
People were saying similar about Johnson.

Yeah the misses are frustrating but he is contributing to the games and working for the team. One will drop that he needs to hit instinctively or ballon in off his left nut and he will start to get a few.

For me the frustrating thing is we even need to be having these debates about someone like Werner as just highlights what you get when you go for the budget option . Squad player or not he wouldn’t be in any of the squads of the teams we have aspirations to challenge / over take

I think this is a bit of a pointless take though. The argument can basically be boiled down to: Buy amazing players.

If you look at our options: We've got Moore & we brought in Oderbert who are both too young to rely on, we've need another top winger but having Werner on loan means we can assess our options next summer & go big on a winger, without having to overly rely on Moore & Oderbert this season.

We know we tried to sign a Neto & we missed out. Having Werner means we aren't short this season & are still able to recruit in the summer without having to offload a player like Solomon who was never going to be good enough.

We have taken massive steps each summer to get the squad Ange wants, but it's not an easy process. Yes, it would have been better if we had gone and spent £80m on Mitoma but that wasn't really viable. Alternatively had we landed Neto, but we didn't.

There wasn't the option to sign an elite attacker & getting Werner in helps us this season without hindering our ability to sign an elite attacker long-term, or further integrate the youth options, It made total sense.

It's a bit like Liverpool signing Enzo after missing out on first choice options. Or Arsenal signing Zinchenko, who they've now effectively replaced. The clubs we want to compete with also make these type of signings. Only City get exactly who they want, when they want them.

To be fair it's not just about the chances he misses but also the chances others miss that he creates. Lankshear heads his cross in and all of a sudden that's a great cross for example. He did well for goal involvements last season hut only scored the odd one. I would expect similar this season, he'll get a few get a handful of assists.

Please don't flame me but finishing aside - which is a pretty big aside - he offers better movement and running than Son most games.

I mean, all of the squads outside of City contain players that we wouldn't want in ours. Every squad is padded out with "good enough" players as backups to the main guys because you can't always afford to have and it's very difficult to assemble and keep together 25 amazing players.

Arsenal for example as most of everyone is worried about them winning the league: Kiwior, Zinchenko, Tomiyasu, Partey, Jorginho, Jesus. Fancy any of them?

We're slowly getting there though at least, and if Timo never does the business we can just not re-loan him and don't have to spend 2-3 years trying to find a home for him. Son is injured, Odobert is injured. We're not looking to be playing Timo Werner as part of the plan and he wasn't getting a game until we found ourselves in it, he's just there for this exact scenario.

Early days but Neto has scored zero goals.
