Playing him, is holding back Moore. Who is hungry and looks confident. Back our own.
Send Werner back at the earliest opportunity, we don’t owe him a confidence boost

I actually see this as a good thing. Mikey Moore is a very promising talent but he’s 17 years old and we have a long season ahead of us, with plenty of football to be played.

Werner was poor tonight and his finishing is utter pony but he did play well otherwise against United and this meant we could give Moore a full match today, plus a cameo at OT while Sonny and Oderbert recover.

Na Moore needs easing in not starting regular PL games, he'll get minutes at the right time, Werner was excellent against Man.U.

Werner needs to get a goal and his finishing will improve.

Timo needs to stay purely as a squad player to cover for any more injuries, he is here because Ange wanted him back. When everyone is fit doubt he even makes the PL matchday squad but for Europa, FA & League cups he provides cover .

I’m watching the game on catch up.
I’m nearly 70 mins in. Just before the subs. I watched a chance play out and thought: “I bet the Timo Werner thread has been bumped.”
Lo and behold…

I don’t get the “he just needs a goal” narrative.
It hasn’t worked previously & I don’t see that changing any time soon.

Yes this isn’t the same as Johnson who literally just needed a goal for confidence whereas if Werner gets a goal it might mean he then goes on to score say 1 out of every 10 future 1v1’s instead of 0/10 😅 as when he gets 1v1 he picks the wrong option or executes poor shooting technique.

It is weird though as in his peak at Leipzig he was banging goals in for fun so he his capable of doing it.

His stats for Leipzig first time round:
21
13
16
28
The bloke can score he just completely lost his way at Chelsea.

That being said he played as a striker at Leipzig so no way we’d expect him to get anywhere near these stats from LW where he’s about a 1 goal in 8 type of guy.

But you just think surely a player who scored 28 goals in one season in a top European league and who scored double figures 4 seasons in a row should know how to finish a 1v1 better than he is showing.

In his 28 goal season look how many 1v1’s he scored either through or round the keeper.

This is the same person just seems shot of confidence to me, I really do wonder if he gets a real run of games and feels loved and gets a goal or 2 if his finishing will start to really improve quite a bit.

Swap his pace for intelligence and he is basically Soldado. Both added something to the team and impressed at what they could do, but as soon as they have a chance, no matter how easy, they just don't have the confidence to put it away.

Don’t disagree with the idea, at all, just struggle to see how he gets the run he’ll need to build confidence when Son presumably returns soon and if Moore keeps up the pressure on him.

Werner isn’t a starter. He’s cover. If wasn’t for resting son and injury to Wilson he would t play. I’d rather we utilise Moore in these situations

It's like a different human being. Can he ever regain that level of confidence and instinctive finishing? He must watch these videos back and weep.

It would be interesting to see how he’s doing in training practicing these one on ones, I know you can never quite replicate it for real in a match day situation as they say with penalties but I’d still like to see how he’s doing. Is he converting them or is he doing exactly what he’s doing on match days, I.e are they always being saved easily by the keeper ?

Johnson and Werner are different animals. There wasn't A question over Johnson's finishing. Werner is useful as a stop gap until the squad is healthy.

Be great if he went on a goal scoring rampage, I can't see it though. Too limp ankled.

Yea I’m wondering the same as they will 💯 be working on this with him so if he fluffing them in training or just in matches, would be very interesting to know.

It's the yips and a major mental blockage. It's almost inexplicable how bad he is in front of goal. Surely Ange and the club are doing something tailored specifically for him to drag him out of this finishing pit. It is honestly bizarre how much of a cliff he fell off between Germany and his first move to England through to the present.

Seriously should not start another game . Last season he showed moments with a turn of pace . This season he seems to have lost that and his shooting is even worse .

send back in January when Yang arrives
I mean he has showed multiple moments of explosive pace? There are plenty of things to get on his back over but that isn’t one of them.
He beat the United right back 3 times cleanly to get good crosses in, he got in behind with pace and movement twice got one on ones?
Tonight did it twice, one should have got an assist, the other he put in a good cross too then he again showed great pace to go one v one.
He was playing tonight in a dysfunctional left hand side, Davies was near enough invisible in attack and bergvall wasn’t functioning at all, he was also playing next to a 19 year making their debut.
Most of our attacks came down the right with porro leading and sarr.
We started to attack more down the left when gray moved and Madison who likes to come left.

Exactly this. We need one random extra forward and this season it’s werner and it’s lucky we have him otherwise with the injuries we have, Moore would have started at old Trafford and we’d have zero bench options on the wing.
