Ange gets to watch both players everyday in training, if he starts Werner over Mikey it’s for a reason.

Whilst Mikey undoubtably has huge potential, I don’t see any evidence yet as to why he should be starting ahead of Werner.

Lots of fans have an agenda against Werner and let’s be honest he’s been pretty awful in front of goal but actually last season his stats outside of that weren’t too bad at all. He hasn’t played enough this season to be judged properly imo.

I like everyone want to see Mikey ripping it up and when the time is right I’m sure he will.

Timo is simply not good enough it, it’s the harsh reality.
Whether it’s Odobert or Mikey, I expect both to be ahead of Timo in the pecking order, how long that takes with Mikey, who knows.

Our squad building has really been exposed because all 3 of Werner, Moore and Odobert are significantly better and more comfortable LW.

With Deki being far better centrally too, it means we only have 1 player who is natural at RW in Johnson.

It’s a real gripe of mine when teams play wingers on the opposite flank to where they’re comfortable. As a winger you’re generally either more comfortable inverted or on your natural foot side. You don’t get many wingers who can genuinely play either flank.
I'm not too worried. I'm in the mindset of getting us, and the kids, ready for next season, and then the season after hopefully they will really start to shine.
Having those 3 share minutes this season OK left wing, then it be 2 of them next season sharing minutes is a really good way to build them up.

Hopefully in Jan we get a player to push/rotate Johnson, under 24 year old ideally

I agree he isn’t good enough, my point is there must be a reason why Ange prefers Werner over Mikey to start.

Werner won't be here by the time Moore is better than him...

(You are putting a ton of pressure on a 17-yo who has not really played any senior football in his life...)

I don't agree with the whole 'the manager sees them in training everyday/do you think you know more than the manager?' line of reasoning. We've seen a bunch of managers continue to make slightly odd decisions. Sometimes they have an irrational fear of playing kids. Sometimes there's pressure from above to play someone else. Sometimes they personally dislike a player (they're human too). Sometimes they might just be wrong and the fans are right.

Say Pep becomes our manager tomorrow. I'm sure he'd make a load of changes, many of which we'd like to see. Does that mean he knows more than Ange? Maybe. At the moment I don't see much of a downside with playing Mikey over current Werner. Let's hope he mugs me off today...

Agree that we shouldn't think every decision the manager makes is right. Regardless of the thought process behind it.

But fans believing they know how ready a 17 year old is to start playing Prem football is considerably weaker.

I agree. I don't see it as in any way surprising that Ange hasn't put Moore in that kind of situation at his age.

I don't want to pile on but if he isn't already working with a sports psychologist, he should start doing so.

Both opportunities were really down to his lack of faith in himself to score. It's like he's already resigned to missing when he's in those positions.

Shame as a goal or two today would've had a positive impact on his form and confidence.

Not going to pile on either. Needs an arm round the shoulder and someone to tell him he’s great. Seems like a timid kid.

Keep working hard Timo. Love the effort

He'll get shit for making some poor decisions but his work rate was a huge part of our first-half performance. I love my unclinical son.

There were a few times outside of the goal scoring opportunities where he looked completely bereft of confidence.

If Son and Odebert are fit he's not making the match day squad. I wasn't a fan of the renewal of the loan but I was talked around by some in here into seeing it as being a sensible idea. After today, I cannot see how he is anything but a man on the pitch. Not much point being as quick as he is if he's forever squandering the 1v1's he's put in to.

Thought he played well overall, got in some brilliant positions and was a shame his finishing let him down, otherwise could have had two goals.

We do need a Timo-type winger who has much better finishing ability. Right type of player, but he really struggles at finishing

Better performance from him today, looking more like he was when he came in last season. The end product will always be an issue with someone his age though. He has great pace and works hard but just a shame not to have Perisic end product. I still think it's a smart loan tbh, we have Moore, Odobert and Yang to come through soon. We simply can't pack the wide positions too much when a bit of patience is needed for these prospects.

The 2x 1v1 missed chances aside I thought he had a really really strong and effective game and was a big reason why we won today.

Credit to Timo. Hopefully the more minutes and match sharpness he gets his finishing will improve a bit but excellent performance today, was fun to watch him, took his man on time and time again rather than keep passing it safe and backwards, was lovely to see.

Werner's direct-running is a threat and also pins the opposition RB back.
He also protects the ball well; doesn't get pushed off the ball.
He allows us to play on the front-foot for the above reasons.
His finishing is poor but the above qualities are important for this team.

💯 his pressing and workrate and defending is also good.

Can absolutely see why an experienced coach like Ange values him so much as a solid squad option.

Against a low block and based on his finishing sure he’s not going to be as effective as we’d like but as you say he does have a lot of benefits which we also need to recognise which are effective in this style of play.

People will meme him for his finishing and decision making but that was his best performance in a Spurs shirt.

I'll let you decide if that's a good thing or a bad thing.
