Was at the Sheffield Wednesday v Plymouth match today

That's because Timo is rumoured to occupy a pretty high position in the secretive German society known as 'Eulenliebe', literally 'love of owls'. Back in Germany, it's quite a thing. All the owl aficionados meet once a month, wearing owl masks to keep their identities secret, and they sit around and discuss what they like most about owls, and share poems, crochet patterns, drawings, short stories etc. about them. Most are normal people but, in addition to Timo, at least one Cabinet Minister, one senior police officer and one TV quiz show host are rumoured to be amongst their number. And, such is their affection for our strigine friends, that these 'Eulenliebe' members will often make life decisions based on their love of owls. Indeed, rumour has it that Timo first considered Tottenham as a destination when Conte was here because he had a 'Head Wig', which sounds like the name of Harry Potter's owl. Obviously, as he's a professional footballer, he likes to keep his involvement on the quiet and he clearly can't head back to Germany to attend such events during the season. But I have heard that he subscribes to the monthly 'Eulenliebezeitung', literally 'owl love newspaper', and likes to demonstrate his love of owls with little movements during goal celebrations e.g. turning his head one way and then the other. Naturally, the visit to Sheffield Wednesday, also known as 'the Owls', is another sign to his owl-loving brethren back home that 'die Eulen' remain as close to his heart as ever.

Or, you know, the performance manager at Sheffield Wednesday was the sports psychologist at RB Leipzig when he was there, so it may be that.

Put in ‘unpopular opinions’ thread.
Asking more adept footballing correspondents in here: ‘can he be effective from the right’?

Short answer - probably not.

The one thing he does really well on the left - beat his man, and get a low left-footed cross in - he can't do that on the right. Kulusevski would still be the better option.

Genuinely think with Solanke he'll get the assists this season.
Yes, but surely he's going to be mostly coming off the bench considering that Son is bound to be starting on the left.

Nevertheless the prospect of a fresh Werner coming on at 70mins against tired defenders and whipping balls across the middle for Solanke, Richi, Johson and Solanke is exciting.

I think he is going to be a way more important player for us than people give him credit for.

I didn't necessarily say it would be as a starter. But as you say we are in a better position to finish strongly with the options off the bench and with Europa, Werner will get his starts. Son could get injured and then Werner is possibly starting. You never know. Anyway, my point is I think Werner will surprise a few and have more goal contributions than is expected.

Could he not simply...use his right foot to cross instead, playing on the right? He's right-footed after all.

Looking back, i think Timo's loan if i remember we had to reactivate it like immediately. With that being said, it was a safe move that is only for one year.

Although he is on massive wagers (150k i think?) it will still allow us to bring in other players in that same position as he can be dropped no problem since we only have him for 1 year not stuck with him forever.

I hope we add on top of Odebert but we will just have to wait and see.

We really can't cause there's limits to our squad numbers and Werner takes up a spot. We're also forced to get rid of Solomon because of it. And as always manager will do his selection based on seniority, leaving Werner on the bench blocking Moore out from the match day squad.

This guy is really, really good at one thing: running down the left wing, putting dangerous balls into the box.

Yesterday, he was for some reason played on the right, where he looked uncomfortable. And he was put there even though Son had already checked out on the left and probably should have been substituted.

His lack of impact yesterday was more on Ange using him wrong, in my opinion.

Signing him in January was one thing, re-signing him this summer was a complete joke.

Wasted a squad place on a player who simply isn’t good enough.

Could have signed 2 quality wingers this summer. Instead we got Werner who isn’t good enough and Odobert (who is potentially very good but now has massive pressure to deliver).

As I’ve maintained all summer, I’d cancel his loan tomorrow and go and sign a quality player instead.
