There’s clearly something going on behind the scenes. Whilst these kind of rumours can appear, they don’t usually gain this much traction without some support from an entourage. That worries me.
I’m torn on this.
Part of me wants us to keep him, and for him to be a huge success. His ability on the ball is something else.
But, after 6 months of media spin, I’m also tempted to just cut our losses. If we can break even, the no harm, no foul. Use the money elsewhere and let Inter deal with his attitude / entourage problems.
My only only nagging doubt here- is Jose taking out his Pogba frustrations on a similar player? Both talented, bit lazy, entourage/ agent a nightmare.
I don’t know
The club, the manager, and the player need to be on the same page here. What I don’t want is some drama that occurs from Jose wanting to sell, but levy not wanting his pride and bank account to take a hit after an obviously poor year for the player. Or if the club force him to stay when the player is unhappy, and then we get a player not giving a shit on the pitch and in training, and his price drops even further, and potential buyers are now aware that this season isn’t a one off attitude wise (for all I know tanguy is ready to fight and has the right attitude, this is just hypothetical).

You’re describing pogba 2.0. I really hope that’s not what’s going on here.

Yeah me too, if he has the right mindset, he has all the talent to be one of the best in the world, and only the player can remove all these ifs and buts. I hope he can turn it around, because by far the best result is tanguy staying and fulfilling his potential.

The entourage thing comes down to the French press always running the "sources close to the player" stories the day after he doesn't play. Someone seems to be mouthing off to them quite often. I wouldn't be suprised if his agent has been looking for a move for a while, even during lockdown when N'Dombele was sorting his shit out.

Ally gold has implied a couple times that when Ndombélé doesn’t play, there always tends to be a story of an unhappy player from French sources, which has been the case, and that tanguy’s family/entourage has been telling the papers this trying to get a move ASAP, but yeah I don’t know this for certain, it is just highly probable. I don’t know where else these stories could have originated, I doubt tanguy himself is calling l’equipe, telefoot, RMC, etc saying he wants out, so I just put two and two together.
The thing is the french media is very nationalistic in this sense. They also pushed this narrative on Lloris and Sissoko. I suspect there is truth in it, but they have the tendency to make a mountain out of a mole hill.

Yeah I agree. The more I’ve looked through the stories and past sagas involving major French players, I realize how protected their players are. It’s never the players’ fault, and it’s always spun negatively for the manager and club if the player is struggling. They rate their players really highly, and tbf they’re world champions, so I guess they don’t want one of their top talents, ndombele, being seen as a failure following a big money move. Overall, I’ve realized that these ndombele stories won’t be going away until he plays regularly and succeeds, regardless of the player’s true feeling.

i see a lot of potential in ndombele, however can we really afford to have a £55m player earning £200k per week sitting on the bench.

manager doesn’t fancy him and I feel if we were to replace him with a player JM does like we can really push on to competing with the top 4 again

Agreed. We cannot be waiting any longer for Ndombele to get fit enough to be starting games. It’s now or never.

Historically, players have usually managed to force a move only when approaching the end of their contracts (eg Carrick, Berba, Eriksen), although Bale had three years left IIRC when he went on strike.

Considering that TND has five years left of his contract, I just struggle to see how Levy would ever accept to take the massive financial hit by selling TND this summer. Whereas that financial hit probably would be even greater next year (if TND does not get his act together), my guess is that Levy will take that gamble.

Tough decision. Protect the investment or cut your losses and trust that you can replace him with an upgrade. Based on what he has shown this season getting an upgrade on him shouldn’t be too difficult, based on what he’s shown to date we will be relying on hope. Attitude is hard to turn around and hope is a poor strategy. Here’s hoping.

I cant believe people are so keen to defend a player who in his first premier league season didn't manage to break out of a gentle Jog the bloke is a talented player but he's a show pony with no desire. If he doesn't want to give 100% for our club in his first year it doesn't matter how talented he is he's just a hinderance.

I agree with your assessment of him (emboldened) but will liken him to Eriksen in so much that Eriksen never tackled but could run and TN can tackle but not run. Both have ability with the ball but neither give much when they don't have it.
I prefer TN for his tackling to Eriksen's attempt at that part of the game. With the ball they can both be match winners.
Just MHO of course.

A CM not being able to run is far worse than a #10 not being able to tackle IMHO. Right now, oppo are basically just breezing through our CM.

'Source close to the player' is always his agent or his 'people'

I agree with that too but TN isn't playing much, if at all, at the moment so it can't be all his fault if they're still getting "breezed through"

I think people need to look at the Transfers situation rather than just the player. It is certainly a risk to back him in that another bad season and Tanguy will be far less valuable and still be on 200k per week.

However.. if we do sell him will we be able to sign a player of the quality to improve on him or play at the level we expected from Ndombele. I believe the answer to this question is no right now with finances the way they are and us having europa league only.
I think we have to take the risk and try to get the best out of him, due to the Lack of a possible better alternative. I do think he’ll be a star somewhere Once settle so I’m happy with this but worry that damage is in repairable now.

Realistically how are we going to get our £65M back? That's the problem. Barcelona are completely skint. I don't see an Italian team paying that kind of money. Which leaves us with keeping him and most likely an even worse situation, and further devalued asset next year.
