Player Watch - Tanguy Ndombele

Is it though?

It makes him come out looking the good guy and gives him the platform to tell N'Dombele 'I told you so' as it's come from an external source
How does it? Didn't Sven suggest in the same piece he would have done things differently in regard to the player behind closed doors?

Edit: differently

Fukmi, it's about time media actually analysed the player's performance rather than just spinning the tired old story of Jose throwing his staff under the bus again. You watch that analysis and think "maybe Jose has a point, what on earth is Ndombele doing".

He's an incredible talent but the worrying thing here is that it looks like it's more than just a fitness issue restricting him.

It feels like an attitude problem. Now I'm not sure on that but if it is its only going to one way.

Hopefully it's resolved soon enough and we start to see some real performances, not just fleeting glimpses.

See I'm starting to question whether we are still seeing things with rose tinted spectacles.

Using the word "Incredible" for me is yet to be justified. Saying he clearly has potential, saying he seems confident when in possession, hell, saying he could be an incredible player in the future wouldn't be stretching it, but saying he is an incredible talent is stretching it!

When you are 10th/11 players in the speed ranks over 45 minutes (the 11th being Hugo) and you are 11th / 11 players in the sprints ranks over 45 minutes (yes, Hugo beat him on this one) there is clearly too much missing in your game at present to be branded an "incredible talent" just yet. It's not just about attitude, or giving 110%, its about a footballing brain.

Even Messi understands that natural ability will only get you so far. If you watch him play, yes there are times when he wanders round observing the flow of the game, but he runs into space to receive the ball, he drags players around the pitch to create pockets of space for other players, he comes deep to receive the ball from the CBs or deeper lying players. This is not just down to effort, this is down to footballing intelligence.

You can be the best player in the world with the ball at your feet, but you wont make it at the top level if you don't show footballing intelligence when you don't!

I know I'm a little late to the table on this but personally I find it a bit much to criticize a player publicly who's only 23, recently moved to the club/country, has struggled with Injuries and has had to deal with a change of manager and thusly change of tactics/philosophy. I find it really bad man management. Sure, if he was shocking, talk to him in private. But it wasn't exactly an easy task that game. He was started alongside Skipp who's only played a handful of matches. I agree he needs to up his game, but he's not alone. We have too many players who have looked just as lost and unfocused. What Jose said could have been worse, but he shouldn't have said anything at all about a player in his situation.

A player doesn't have to be perfect. Some tackiling would help, some extra effort coming back would help. He isn't a sprinter but spin bowlers are not fast bowlers either. He does have great talent and he needs to both do more even with the ball to justify any weakness and really do a thousand times better on the defensive side other wise we need to work around he inability not to sprint. The positive side must outway the negative side and the negative side still has to be a ton better. Greaves,Ginola etc were never defensive players in any way at all but they made things happen. We could handle that if he got to that status, maybe move him more forward and use two DMs behind him.
But he has to improve by a lot or he is gone

Even having him play further up the pitch won't solve the problem. Issue is, off the ball, there are tons of possible tasks to solve. Closing down space and making it harder for the opponent is key. But he just sort of hangs there, laying bare the most basic of space for the opponent so they can do their passing and ball play. You can't have one of ten players just freely providing room, the rest of the team is screwed that way.

The noise around Ndombele has not been good. What the truth is I don't know. Is he lazy or just struggling with adapting to a new country, new situation and new league? Is he carrying an injury or is he fit and if so is he really match fit? Is he just being picked on by the manager, who has a reputation for being a bit of a bully? Certainly as fans we see skill on the ball yet what we perceive as a lack of application. Having surmised all that we shouldn't forget that it can take players a long time to adapt. People have short memories but the first two years Dembele was with us he was next to useless however when he got injury free, got match fit we saw a hugely different player. Son, Lucas and many others took a good while to start to shine. So I choose to cut Ndombele some slack and not make him the latest in a long line of scapegoats from the terraces

This week was particullary bad. he didn't do anything. I would say that's a bad reaction to Mourinho;s attitude with him. He obviously doesn't take well to that challenge. I do like him on the ball.He is fantastic.(not this week as I said) but cant see him getting his own way and it looks downhill now. Going further up the field with a positive mindset I think he would create a ton but I think its all negative now.Not a place for a creative sensitive type now

I miss the days when everyone on here was being amateur psychologists by judging Eriksen's body language and whether he was fully engaged or not, those were simpler times but so long ago.

He's got a point tbf. Did you forget Mourinho has worked for Sky before???

No he doesn't. So Mourinho called up Sky to do a hit piece in Ndombele and back his view point and they managed to highlight what Jose wanted with their squiggles and circles. It clearly didn't happen

No I didn't forget at all. I just realised it was a fucking batshit mental suggestion. And yet another example of Free Parking.

Alright you pair of ostriches - keep burying your 'eads in the sand. Clearly a well-executed hit-piece, but the eyes see what they want to see I guess.

I'd love for us all to get behind him- he's immensely talented and even of he wasn't he's our player and we should support him through it imo. If it doesn't work out it doesn't work out. Look at how Sissoko turned it around.

Back in the day, way, waaaaaay back, I used to manage snooker clubs, mainly in North London, (Tottenham, Stoke Newington, Hackney, some real world class joints) as well as in Harlesden and Forest Gate. Anyway, at most of them we'd have an old boy cleaning the tables, odd numbers one day, evens the next, just for something to do, a few quid in their pocket and some free light time.

So, in the Tottenham club, the old boy was called Bob. A harmless old boy, wouldn't say boo to a goose and would do anything for you. He was a nice chap. Except when he opened his great big flappy gums to tell me about Spurs. Fuck me he came out with some ridiculous bollocks. I mean real world class pie in the sky bollocks that just had you shaking your head and asking yourself how the fuck he'd reached such a ripe old age when he was that fucking silly. Even world events and stuff, he'd have the inside skinny and wasn't frightened to share........After not very long (26 seconds IIRC) it moved from being boring to tedious to 'fuck off Bob or pass me the rope'.............

Anyway, SC has a number of Bobs.

Hello Bobs.

And to all the Bobs out there and in this thread I'd just like to say 'pass me the rope'

It's all up to the player - it should be easy to earn our support. All Ndombele needs to do is a few sprints and show some bloody effort, and trust me fans will we cheering and applauding him on. Unless you're stupid, fans will want to see him succeed because that means the team will succeed.
