Jose specifically said 'There was no midfield in first half'...which means he wanted Tanguy to play in CM but he didnt do his job...And thats exactly what I saw as well. Rewatch the 45, even however painful it could be...Tanguy never shows up for the ball from back line. Two Burnley players surround him near center of circle. But never tried to shake them off, move into space and drag them. GLC did this first minute he came on...Burnley players didn't go with him, maintained their position - and GLC then picked the ball and dictated play.

On not sure so are you saying in this game Mourinho wanted him to go forward but he stayed back and in the other games he asked him to come back and he didnt.
I just think he played very simple in this one. I would have thought away at Burnley Mourinho would have wanted us to play sort of conservative
Especially as ND hasn't tracked back well.
GLC plays all.over the field and IS a more forward player anyway

Dele’s talking about him here I suspect

“When you're in the Premier League at this stage everyone's fighting and working hard, we have to match that and have the same fight and enthusiasm,” he said.

"You have to be switched on throughout the whole game, your talent isn't going to be enough - you have to work hard and fight.

"There's no hiding in the Premier League, the stats and the table are out there for everyone to see. As well as we play in some games, we're not getting over the line.

Quite a milestone he’s hit. 50 goals in the premier league now and he’s about to turn 24 and complete his 5th season as our tertiary goal threat positionally. That’s quite an achievement. 153 games (139 starts). Throw in his 33 assists and that’s better than 1 in 2 contributions sans set pieces across his first 5 seasons. If he keeps it up over his next 5 seasons with us (assuming we can keep him) then he’ll surely go down as one of our best in the modern era.

(There’s my bit of positivity for today).

I fear a Pogba-like scenario developing here. Talented midfielder who perhaps isn't flourishing under the current coach (nor was he under the last one) but has his own reasons (injury).

Hope Mourinho can motivate him.

He was poor yesterday.

Ndombele had a full preseason. He has worked under 2 manager for more than 3 months each. Number of games all competitions he has finished 90min is just 5 which includes 2 games against Belgrade, 1 against Norwich.

It is not just his fitness, its his willingness to wanting the ball. Yesterday, first half - he simply didnt want the ball. He didnt move into space to look & receive ball from our CBs - instead our CB had to go long to nobody ufront. 2nd half - changed with Lo Celso, taking charge.

From club point of view, I think we have given him a lot of rope and been lenient till now...But its high time, he starts showing he is good enough in the league especially when club needs him. I simply dont see the effort from his side.

He is certainly a world class talent - but that is a secondary for a team struggling with injuries like we are. I am certainly with Mourinho on this treatment - I am sure Jose has said same to him in private prior to this. He needs to come out of his comfort zone & show he cares.

it’s not the first time a big signing has turned out to be a bust. Renato Sanches the latest wonderkid who turned out to be no up for the task and was shipped out on loan. We either give him a last chance or cut ties with him. Levy surely does not want a £50 million player roting on the bench or sick ward

Currently toxic are the fans and not Jose
Fans appear toxic as we have gone from challenging for the league and consistently being a joy to watch back to mid-90’s Spurs all in the blink of an eye. It’s fucking depressing and thus brings out the worst in the fans.

Wouldn’t really call our demise over a 15 months the blink of an eye.

We’ve been bad since early 2019.

Ironic from Dele really with the moaning and throwing his hands in the air.

Another player with great talent who doesnt use it to be a great player. He understands the problem with NDombele as he has the problem himself as you know Punk
Time for both of them to look in the mirror and decide what they want.
These two can make us top notch but half of each is nothing.
Finding the key for both is better than moaning about the Sissokos and Auriers easy marks for some at SC

In some ways it is refreshing to have a manager who actually comes out and says it as it is. The problem is these top footballers are very ' precious' about criticism and there will be a number of his close mates in the squad who won't like it. The ex footballer pundits nearly always condem a manager for naming and shaming in public because they are of the same mentality. These things tend to fester and , in the long run, it will probably have been better if he just said it to TN privately.

The thing is can Mourinho get to him like this or even privately?
I think first NDombele would want respect at what he can do and then to tell him what he could do and then tell him what will happen to him and the relationship if he cant or doesnt want to.
I think to hammer him (and I havent heard the presser yet)is not constructive.

Not to mention utter rubbish.

All Mourinho did was alter the personnel in midfield and make a slight change to the back line to bring Moura on.

The system only allows for midfielders to lay off to the CB’s so they can play it to the front 3? I must have imagined Lo Celso picking the ball up deep and driving forward with it. I must have imagined him working his chads off pressing Burnley’s midfield to win the ball back too.

That was the fundamental difference in the two halves, a midfield that were missing in the first and a midfield that fought for the ball in the second.
We've played with GLC and Moura with a back 5 and were as shitty as we were yesterday in the first half. So I don't understand how can you conclude that the difference was the personnel and not the tacts. Even the commentators in my stream talked about how the change in formation changed us completely

Nah, I don't think that's dele pointing at a peer within the team. I think he is talking about the entire Tottenham team vs. other PL clubs.

I just can’t understand why you or many others can’t see what he is doing. He said after the Norwich game we either go all in on the PL or CL. It looks like he’s trying to balance between the two. The plan was obviously 5 at the back and hold them out until around the 60th min before we let the big guns like Lo celso and Moura on. This way our best players get to conserve energy and will be ready for the CL. The plan failed because our terrible defence can’t keep anything out, but Hugo was also at fault. But you can see why we can’t play this intensity for 90mins right? So please stop slaughtering our manager and let him work! He’s having to work absolute miracles with what’s happening at the moment. If you and others want to rant then rant at anyone it should be our board.

Conserve energy?? You run less when you are in possession than when you are not. The only players that run less with how he sets us up are the CBs. The rest have to run more, specially the forwards.

Jose is lowering our expectations to get away with bad performances and results.

Yes, he deserves some slack given our injuries and complete lack of strikers, but the idea that he's working miracles is just pure nonsense.

Exactly this.

So moving to a back 4 and putting an extra forward up made us more dominant in midfield?

M'kay...
