We need to be patient with him and support him rather than slagging him off at every opportunity. Yes it's frustrating given that he's our record signing but that's the reality of the situation. We can all see his talent, and with the full support of the club's sport science and nutrition resources behind him I think it's only a matter of time before he reaches a level of fitness that allows him to fulfill his full potential unless he truly is so unprofessional as to be unable to get his diet and conditioning in order. I doubt very much that will prove to be the case in the long term, but it does seem we won't see him at his best this season.

We have to keep in mind that this is only his third season at the top level and that his fitness has always been his biggest issue. It was the reason why he was cut from his academy as a teenager and was toiling in the French fifth division until being picked up by Amiens in the second division and then being scooped up by Lyon. He had the maturity then to up his levels to allow him to progress in France, so I don't see why it should be assumed that he won't have the discipline needed to take a second leap. He chose to come to the world's most physically demanding league instead of skirting by in Italy, I can't imagine that he doesn't have the desire to reach his best level.

We'll just need to be patient because when he does reach that level, we may very well have one of the world's best midfielders on our hands. If he were already at his best he'd have been out of our league. To me this situation is similar in a way to the club buying a young Modric or Bale and guiding them along to the world class level over the course of years. He's got that kind of ability, it's just going to require a bit of patience.

Creativity doesn't come from one player it comes from the team. If you only have one player being creative you'd be a pretty shit team. The best teams have players that are all a little creative that can all pass and all move. Creativity is a team thing and saying that the Poch teams of old had no creativity other than Eriksen is just wrong.

This conversation is ridiculous. If course other players have creativity...many can pass and make something happen I'm talking about key players not attributes they all have.
But I've never had to explain this before as most people would have an inkling it means key players that are creative or goalscorers or defenders.

So why did we buy two creative players in the summer?
Why are we thinking of more if we have enough?
Why did everyone look for a striker?
And why all talk about a Dm?

It's about key players heavy on attributes we need

I opted for this thread. It was either this one, or the 'shifting the timber thread'.

I like him. :woot:

Just because a player is a record signing for a club doesn’t ensure that he will intergrade faster then a 15 million pound player. There are a lot of factors to consider. I understand the frustration a lot of people are feeling but that doesn’t change how things are. Give hime time and support. I for one belive that he will be a massive player for us.

How comes?
Hey Dan, I disagree strongly. Why are creative players so coveted?

De Bruyne and Eriksen are up there with the most desirable players in the top 5 leagues precisely because of the number of key chances they create.

Dele can create 'a bit,' and yet he's not talked about in the same breath as De Bruyne or Sancho, D.Silva, B. Silva, or Ziyech.

We watched the Poch team over 5.5 years and everyone concluded that when Eriksen was off-form, we sucked.

Why does this fanbase revere Hoddle, for instance?

To suggest that a team of the Diers and Winks of this world playing recycla-ball would fare as well creatively as a team with Lo Celso and Ndombele in it is ridiculous. Creative players make the difference. For one thing, recycla-ball is boring as hell.

I think you're right but I also think there's 'team creativity' too in a sense.

Players like Eriksen, De Bruyne, Hoddle etc have that ability to create from nothing; to see a pass that no-one else sees and to pull it off. That kind of thing is purely down to the individual, can't be taught and we relied on it from Eriksen a lot during the Poch era.

However, there's also creativity that's borne of coaching and systems that pull apart your opponents' shape to create space and exploit their weaknesses. We also did this a fair amount under Poch and, when Trent or Firminho aren't creating for Liverpool (tbh Liverpool don't really have a single pure creator) a lot of their goals are 'created' by their style of play and the space created by their pace, their fast switches of play and the shapes and moves Klopp has drilled into them in training. This type of creativity does require a team effort across all areas of the pitch in order to pull it off.

I agree that there is both. The individual creativity spark and the team creativity but often when defences clamour up it takes a vision to see the space and hit it. Often that space is there for a second. You have to see it.
Many players can pass but only a few have the vision of a creator. It's not a learned thing, its something those players are born with. They are in the premium.
Recycling is when you dont see better spaces. So you try and work it. But most if the times recycling gets the defences tighter until there is no space.
Eriksen would work the recycling and then hit that great ball. Ndombele discountscthe recycling and hits it quickly.
For me it's a brilliant thing to watch.

Agreed, we were always pretty terrible to watch when we didn't have Eriksen in the lineup. We were so slow moving the ball and seemed to have no ideas as to how to move the ball quickly and creatively.

End to end game today and Leipzig on Wed.

Can see why Jose opted for Lo Celso/Fernandes instead of Tanguy just for today. If he's not involved again on Wednesday then yeah there's something going on behind the scenes/
