really hard to judge him when the rest of the team is so poor as well. same goes for any player right now. nothing's working.

Apparently he nearly didn’t make it as a pro due to his conditioning / weight. He’s one of those players who will balloon once he stops playing. I don’t think we’ll see the best of him for quite some time, maybe even next season.
That's poor considering we paid £60m for someone who is not ready..

I agree with the off the ball stuff but even when we have possession the game passes him by. He's invisible at times. 30 touches today for someone we hope to boss the middle of the park is scary.

Has so much talent but this is going to be a longer project than I was expecting.

I don’t think it’s fitness.

He’s just defensively lazy and has no discipline.

Why this wasn’t identified as a problem when we rely on an aggressive pressing strategy is a mystery.

He looks fantastic on the ball but off it he’s a liability.

He's playing on the same wavelength as the rest of the team, which is to say poorly. Today he was crap, somehow standing on the ball multiple times and leaving it behind. Midweek against Bayern he was one of the best players on the park during those opening 30 minutes and still held a good level until removed.

I just don't think he's got the defensive side of his game down well enough yet for us to keep him as part of a screening two.

He looked lean and nimble at Lyon. He still doesn't look like at peak fitness levels even though we are now in October

???

Agree in theory but we haven’t bothered pressing for 2 years.

Yes totally agree, defensively he is lazy, lacks discipline and to top that off he clearly has fitness issues. Maybe the big transfer has gone to his head, but currently looks nothing like a 60 million + player.

Oh, cool. So now folks on here are *incredibly lazily* going to say he’s not good enough, then. That was predictable.

I understand that this whole “new signing” business has the whiff of a novel experience for Spurs supporters, but if you dig really, really, really deep into your memory to the last time we had one come into the first XI you may find that it takes a bit of time for them to settle completely. Even those who have a big price tag attached to them.

he needs to work his arse off and if he's done by half time that's cool we can bring him off like today winks came on.

if he is still not bossing games for 90 mins by the end of the season then f me, we need to sell this dodgy kebab, it aint kosher.

sorry, meant to say tasty little player. he is ya know.

he needed to come off at half time against bayern munich too. i was shouting at the tele take that f guy off! bring lamela!

no one heard me. the rest is... historic

when he did finally go it was eriksen who replaced him. fucking hell. really?

Two things I would say is that I think at the moment we should play him in then Eriksen role and give him as little defensive responsibility as possible to see if he can make a greater impact on the game. There is clearly a player in there but he runs around like myself after 10 mins playing five a side with my mates.

The other point and one I mentioned when we signed him, I had a feeling he may we be our Keita. A player signed with a massive reputation but doesn't hit the ground running. My prediction was that I thought Lo Celso would be our best signing and even with his injury i still expect this to happen.

Son, Lucas, Modric, Bale, on and on.

Sometimes the players you have to be patient with go on to be the best of them.

He's just getting up to speed with the demands of the prem.

Needs to be given time but having to come off early in games is not great. He should be at peak fitness at this stage of the season. If he isn't thats on the manager and the coaching staff.

He looked really good in the 1st half against BMunich playing on the right, yesterday Poch put him on the left & he didn't look anywhere near as effective. I think we need to use him where he's most comfortable for a good while before we start asking him to cover areas where he's not as comfortable or he's going to get disillusioned & he'll be another player that falls by the way side.

He looks very lazy off the ball. Stood still for a lot his 45 minutes .
But he's struggling with the pace, and being asked to play in a set up which is asking way too much of him right now. Seems crazy to me, the space he's having to cover, when he clearly isn't up to it.
tbh though, none of our midfielders are up to it. So playing in a system that requires a couple of Kante's, is making it tough.
