The players and transfer targets are all either at international tournaments or enjoying well-earned summer breaks. There's no reason why transfer deals cannot still be done in principle while these guys are away internationally, but for whatever reason it might suit our club to wait to formally announce anything when everyone is back at the ground, to have the standard Poch arm-round-the-shoulder-contract-signing photos. As fans with zero control over how this plays out, we just need to have some belief and patience that our squad will be in a better shape by the time the new season kicks off

I think people need to calm down. It's only middle of June and our 3 main targets are currently preoccupied elsewhere. Still got the entirety of July and even then August.

Nobody is thick enough to not realise we have a fair bit of time left, we also know that our targets are widely-coveted and the longer these things drag out, the more likely we are to have moves hijacked.

Reading through the desperation on here and elsewhere tells me a lot of people are panicking. I, for one, am not. I believe we will sign all three, or two at the least. Patience. These are human beings with commitments and well earned holidays after all.

Being fair, Poch will want signings in before pre season which starts early July. So about 2 weeks left for that. Also, the window closes 3 weeks early again.

According to the Read Only Trix posted that on the 10th. So complaining that it's been a week on what? The 14th or 15th? , Take no notice of the opinion or impatience of someone who can't even count up to fucking seven without taking the sock off their left foot.

And that's not mentioning the fact that people as usual take things too literally.

I did notice your nice little watch emoji on the post that came to mind when posting this:LOL:

To quell some of the hysteria - Liverpool are being used as a prime example of getting transfers done and getting them done early. However, it's not entirely true.

Yes they paid up pretty quickly for Fabinho but I think that was a relatively reasonable transfer fee which allowed them to get it done within days.

However, we all know that the Van Dijk one rumbled on and on until they had to pay a record amount.

Then there's the Allison one.....

https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/spo...rpool-confirm-signing-alisson-becker-14930903

From what I recall they had been interested in Allison for months and according to the article had been quoted £90m originally, then 75m a month later. Liverpool were prepared to walk away, as they felt it was too much, yet they eventually got it done for around £66m - significantly less than the original asking price.

I see the transfers of Ndombele and Lo Celso as very similar situations. Their clubs are asking for way over the odds fees, we've offered an amount which is a fair bit off and we don't seem to be budging.

By mid July (if no other interest has been stated) this figure will start to drop as both Betis and Lyon realise that they aren't getting the requested amounts and there is no bidding war.

I do think other clubs will baulk at 75m for Ndombele and 80m for Lo Celso, therefore we won't see anyone bid close to that, especially as most other clubs have other primary targets.

For example, Juventus are bartering with Lazio for Milinkovic Savic (offered significantly less than demanded), they ain't suddenly going to move on to a secondary target and offer more money. Neither will Madrid if they can't get Pogba, nor will City if they can't get Rodri. I honestly don't think PSG are interested.

There's also a significant amount of wages we're not shelling out while the negotiations carry on. IOf course, I know that a couple of million is insignificant in the realm of football transfers, but it will come in handy when servicing the debt on the stadium build.

We were told to calm down last summer and that there was plenty of time. Look how that turned out. I can understand why a few people are agitated.

I also think it’s different compared to other clubs in the prem who haven’t done much in the TW this summer. We haven’t signed a player in so long and have so much work to do. I’m concerned we have zero rumors for Wanyama, Janssen, Nkoudou, Lamela, etc.

Yup, and also by not buying anyone for 2 windows we’ve given ourselves double the amount of work to do. Instead of needing 2 or 3 players this summer, we need about 4 or 5, especially if Erik and Toby leave. Getting in Ndombly, Lo Celso & Sess should be the minimum, but I’ll add I’d be be absolutely delighted with those 3 even if it does leave us short ( ie need a new RB )

I'm confident we'll make signings, however, given that we've gone sooooo long without signing anyone, the world and his wife now knows that we need bodies in, and are happy to squeeze us for as much as they can get. We've brought a lot of it on ourselves and unfortunately we're now having to pay top dollar to get who we want.

To further back up your point, I recall Liverpool were really trying to push through Allison in January but couldn't get it done and had to wait until the summer. Hardly a whirlwind transfer.

The lack of outs bothers me more than ins at the moment.

Does it matter where the player is? Most of the negotiations will be between the two clubs and the agent. I'm sure the player could still be kept in the loop and a deal could be done subject to medical, etc.
Not sure I buy the idea that we can't sign any players until they return from holiday / international duty.
I remember during past summers other clubs have signed players whilst they're on holiday.
In Ndombele's case he said he needs time to cogitate so fair enough.
However in, say, Sessegnon's case, it's perfectly possible to agree a fee with Fulham and then get the medical done once he returns from England duty.
Do I genuinely believe we'll sign someone soon? Probably not, but it's not impossible IMO.
Just yesterday the player actually used his own mouth to say:
"I'm going to go on my holidays. And after that I'll try to see what I can do."

Great post.

I'd just like to justify the appearance of "panic" on the forum - myself included. The perception is that Pochettino is a fussy manager in terms of player purchases. His ethos built around hard work, technical skill, adaptability and a team that plays for each other means he wants a specific type of player.

So the concern on early transfer silence is that:
1) We will be gazumped in the market by clubs ready to splash the cash. Anyone who thinks Man Utd do not represent a massive draw to most players around the world have Spurs-tinted spec on. Massive wages (relative to Spurs), reputation, playing at OT and being part of that history is hard to turn down. Particularly when you're likely to be starting games.
2) Not getting in the players Pochettino wants means we delay further because he won't necessarily be happy with what the rest of the Spurs transfer committee deem suitable and available.

Of course there's ages to go for Spurs to pull off some great work but the fact that we've already been linked with a failed bid(s) for Lo Celso is concerning because he's really caught the eye. Ndombele is in the same position.
