this is the point where we need to do what Liverpool did with VVD and Allison - manager identifies a player they really want. club spends whatever it takes to get them for said manager.

this is not the time to mess around and end with the lesser targets.

if he is what Poch wants (same goes for Lo Celso and Sess), then their value to us could be immeasurable, just like VVD to Liverpool.

There is a reason we struggle to get transfers done and in large part due to this constant haggling and low ball offers that only get off negotiations to a bad start and piss off the selling club. Our MO is to declare interest in players, unsettle them, and offer significantly less than market value.

Liverpool is a great example of the decisiveness needed in the modern day market. They identify targets, don’t f’ around, and come in with offers to get the player bought. They rarely have missed on their major targets the past few years and it’s the reason they pushed on past us and won the CL and destroyed the league.

The transfer market has moved years beyond Levy and he is just no longer effective in managing it. I am sure Poch is growing tired of it as well.

I don't think Liverpool and Van Dijk is a great example...

Liverpool have been forced into a humiliating climbdown in their pursuit of Virgil van Dijk, with the club shelving a potential world-record deal for the defender and publicly apologising to Southampton.

They got there in the end, but it wasn't just a case of paying the fee and getting the transfer done quickly and easily.

Ally Gold reporting that Poch returned to London today after being in Spain since the CL final. Perhaps there was a reason and this was it?

i was meaning more paying the required fee and backing the manager.

Madrid have just confirmed Ferland Mendy from Lyon. Maybe they'll want their outgoings done early doors to get players in? Fingers crossed.
