I seem to remember Aulas doing the same thing with Lloris, dragging it out until the last day, inviting bids from every club under the sun... silly to expect any different from him!

There is a reason we struggle to get transfers done and in large part due to this constant haggling and low ball offers that only get off negotiations to a bad start and piss off the selling club. Our MO is to declare interest in players, unsettle them, and offer significantly less than market value.

Liverpool is a great example of the decisiveness needed in the modern day market. They identify targets, don’t f’ around, and come in with offers to get the player bought. They rarely have missed on their major targets the past few years and it’s the reason they pushed on past us and won the CL and destroyed the league.

The transfer market has moved years beyond Levy and he is just no longer effective in managing it. I am sure Poch is growing tired of it as well.

It's like people selectively read things, take the bit they want then twist it all the way back around to the usual bollocks written on here when it comes to transfers.

Do people just have this shit ready with a macro.

Fucking hell, you’d all lose clubs hundreds of millions of pounds if you were involved in our negotiations.

Lyon value Ndombele at £66m. fine.

Spurs haven’t made a bid yet but value him at £44m. Fine

That is where negotiation happens.

If Levy said “Hello french me, this is our first offer... here’s the £66m you want, paid in full.” what is Aulas going to say?

“Actually....our valuation of him has changed. We want £77m.”

Don’t start running the tub and plugging the toasters in yet, for fucks sake.
Exactly.

It's not time to panic and put in excessive bids for a player we may get for 10m+ less. If another club comes in with a significant bid then we will have to bite the bullet but if we're the only serious bidders that fee will come down as Aulas will realise he's not getting what he wants.

I will however be frustrated if another club comes in and outbids us for a reasonable value because we weren't willing to go that far. The excuse only washes so far.

I'd say that actually is quite believable.
i agree - The players that hes competing with at national level (Kante and Sissoko) both moved for around £30m a few years back and hes much younger than them so add in transfer inflation in the meantime and E50m seems like a reasonable opening bid that shows we're not taking the p**s (for once).

I believe Arsenal signed Lacazette with a bit less drama than us with Lloris. Quick google search suggests that deal was done on 5 July 2017. So it can be done.

It wasn't a great deal better when we were buying N'jie ... I know most of us have blotted that from our memories but I could have sworn there was a late link with two other prem. teams when we were meant to be wrapping it all up ...

I remember there being similar games in the media though. Aulas saying he won't be sold etc.

Over £60 million for somebody who's only played in the French league is a lot of money.

Do people remember Bakayoko for Monaco? He looked great in the French league and in CL games.

Leave it to Daniel , he got Hugo at reasonable cost. Same President still at Lyon.

“We have had people speaking all night with Daniel Levy. He talks a lot and goes back on what we’ve agreed in writing. The things as they were at 5am were not the same at 10am.
“I would put it at 50-50 that Hugo goes to Tottenham. Agreements have not at all been respected. We’ve done what we can. The negotiation with the Tottenham directors has been the hardest I have ever had to undergo in 25 years.”

I'm trying not to get too sucked in, Trix said we will know more how our summer is shaping in the next 2 weeks, not going to be concerned until the end of that period and news stories coming out now lines up with the notion of movement over the next 14 days.

No, that's not how it works. Aulas knows how great NDombele is, he knows he's in high demand, do you really think he'll sell this early? It's not even half of June yet. Of course he's going to bide his time, try to drum up interest, that's negotiating. Whatever we offer, he'll ask for more.
I'm sure we would all like to have our targets here by preseason, but when we're following world class targets it's not as easy. We're not Real Madrid.
Also that Liverpool bit is bullshit. They've missed on plenty of targets - Gotze, Brandt to name a few. They pissed off Southampton so much they had to send out a formal apology. The only really efficient deals were Keita (who had one year left on his contract) and Fabinho (with Monaco being very open to sell him as they needed the money).

If I recall correctly, we did lowball well under what they wanted for Hugo, but his contract was running down and he chose us so despite dragging it out to the last day there was little Aulas could do in the end.

It was still quite a high fee for a 'keeper at the time though iirc.

Which is key, if he says he wants to come to us it puts Aulas in the position which he might aswell get it done now and get the funds to re invest
