I wasn’t being sarcastic. I thought he seemed to understand what was going on throughout.

really? In thought he acted like I do on a family zoom quiz whereby i just randomly laugh at moments where I think someone has told a joke as I haven’t been paying attention but here’s hoping your view is correct as learning the language would make such a difference to adapting to life in England

Nope, neither is a “positional” midfielder as Jose would put it. They need someone behind them to sit, sniff danger, tackle, win the ball, and give it to them.
I'm not sure a player like that is necessary in this day and age. 2 dynamic central midfielders with a good understanding can make it work. Lo Celso has shown great work rate tracking back and winning the ball back. If Ndombele can work as hard I think it could work as a 2.

How many clean sheets have we kept since Dembele left?

Look at the clubs doing well in the league, Liverpool have Fabinho, Leicester have Ndidi, Chelsea have Kante, even City who probably can play without one, have Rodri and Fernandinho.

Lo Celso and Ndombele can work as a two but only with an anchor sitting behind them. Ndombele will never be an enforcer or a sitter, he's pure luxury and his best moments have come when he runs forward and beats players.

Then look at the clubs who are doing badly - Arsenal don't have a proper DM and they're shit.

100% this. There’s in fact a clear correlation between Dembele leaving and our form dropping off the face of the earth in Feb 2019. Poch was right, the guys a genius.

I think even despite our very high rating of him, he was even more severely underrated than we thought!

I still wonder if a 343 could work out with the two midfielders being GLC and N'Dombele. On paper, we have all the positions covered, but I don't know if those two could realistically work in a pivot.

Looks like Lo Celso is out on Friday so we're gonna need Ndombele to step up.

He does like a big game - he was renowned for it at Lyon - so hopefully he makes a statement against Utd.
What information suggests he is out?

When I wrote that there were strong rumours he was injured and Jose has since confirmed in his presser that he's recovering from a long term injury (since pre-lockdown) and may not start. Sounds like he will at least be on the bench and play some part, though.

He is going to flop. The United team are going to shit all over him, he'll be way off the pace and we'll be looking at Bruno Fernandes wondering why we didn't sign him for the same money instead.

I know this for sure - because I put him into my Fantasy League team this week.

Ndombele is like Dembele though . All those midfielders are dynamic ones. Neither of them just sit and protect like the old Makalele role. Football has moved on since then. Ndombele is exactly what we've needed since Dembeles legs went and we started to lose control in midfield.

I see Ndombele being the one in midfield starting everything off from deep and making the odd runs forward. He's got the attributes on the ball but needs to show more off it. Besides we don't have a true defensive midfielder anymore anyway so it's the best option we have.
