Why single one player out but take off two. It was unnecessary.
It's attitude, not ability.
A players performance rating is a combination of those.
Ability is a combination of your ceiling as a player and short term match fitness restrictions (tiredness, niggles, injuries).
Attitude is how hard you try to play towards your ceiling and defy match fitness restrictions.
The more match fit you are, the easier is it to reach your ceiling.
Regardless of how match fit you are, you should max out on attitude. Every time.
Skipp -> a kid who is still learning. Low expectation to ability for now, but brings buckets of the right attitude -> can't fault that.
Ndombele -> high ceiling, got talent and skills, but doesn't care and doesn't try to bring enough of the right attitude -> that's why he is faulted.

I wonder if TN was given specific instructions about shape and how to play, and did something else entirely.

For JM it may have been more than just effort.

Which bit is the lambasting bit in his quote?

Think people are vastly taking this quote and blowing it out of proportion because it's Jose ...
Completely agree. I think the comments were far more balanced than people are taking them to be. Mourinho specifically said that he's a great talent and that it has taken many fantastic players a season to adapt to the English game. He's hardly throwing him under the bus completely, the quotes reflect an understanding of Ndombele's circumstances, he's simply saying it hasn't been good enough so far and that Ndombele needs to buck up his ideas, which is plainly true.

What concerns me a little is that Jose was unsure of Lo Celso - Lo Celso put his head down to prove how good he was.
Jose is unsure of Ndombele - Ndombele seems to have gone backwards.

Obviously, I'm willing to give him til next season, as we should all be with Jose but, it's beginning to nag away at the back of my mind that he just might lack the cojones for this game.

Lets be honest, up to this point considering his a record buy, his been shocking, maybe Mourinho has tried the honest talk privately and it didnt work.

So I take it that Mourinho thought his game plan was let down by the players and not his tactics

Didn’t even think he was bad today. The team on a whole looked so defensive that no one had any attacking fluidity.
Agree.
You just have to look at how the other players performed in the second half.
It's how we are set up that makes some player look worse than they are.
In the second have we had the correct attitude and wanted to score, not just sit back and wait.
I'm sure Ndombele would've player a lot better in the second half

In a seasons time, N'dombele will have settled somewhere and be an elite player who takes risks, and is brave. Probably not with us because he'll have been driven out.

Mourinho will still be a washed up cowardly manager playing a back 5 of 5 centre backs and wondering why the midfield looks awful. He'll be tearing some other poor **** midfielder apart to protect his neck, totally unable to see his own flaws.

We'll see against Leipzig. If we sets us up to wait again, he won't have learned anything from this past game.

None of us know what the tactical instructions were. It's possible that Jose didn't fundamentally alter how he wanted the team to play at half time, but that the midfield simply wasn't taking control of the game in the first half the way he thought they ought to have done.

What we do know, on the other hand, is that Lo Celso came in for Ndombele and completely took the game by the scruff of the neck. It's possible that that is what Jose was asking of Ndombele in the first half and that Ndombele simply didn't show for the ball and take control of the game in the way that Jose believes him to be capable of.

Without knowing what has transpired behind closed doors, either with regard to the instructions the players have been given or the approach Jose has taken to motivating Ndombele, we can only really speculate as to the issues being raised in this thread.

This in spades.

It’s interesting that the people lambasting JM for his comments are the same people who have been digging him out for, well, everything.

Two different people maybe Ndombele needs an arm around the shoulder or was that given to Lo Celso who knows maybe a kick up the ass.
