You're right, buying players isn't an exact science and I wouldn't always blame Levy for transfers that don't work out because every club makes mistakes but failures in the market doesn't stop other clubs going out and buying expensive players again. I don't think we are going to be able to compete with Liverpool, Arsenal and others at the top if we are always too worried if a transfer will come off and always think of it from a financial risk and asset point of view.
Yes agree with this, as well as the comments from others about better recruitment, due dilligence and progressing players from our development squads. There is no one thing, it is a combination of things that go into establishing a strong squad.

Andy Booth and Milenko Acimovic say hi. I remember the latter putting the ball over the cross bar when he was only 6 yards from the goal 🤣. I’ve found the miss

Him and Blondel... why was I so sure that a 27 year old from the Serbian league and an 18 year old from Belgium (nether of whom I'd ever heard of) were going to transform everything about us

I remember this quote so vividly from Mr Hoddle about Acimovic.

"Milenko played very well, he's going to be a good asset to the club," added Glenn.

"He reminds me of a young Trevor Brooking, he's very much like that. He's got an eye for a goal and gets in the box - he's going to be a surprise to a lot of people

I’m sure Glenn said something similar about Goran Bunjevcevic comparing him to Beckenbaur

Aw man, I had such high hopes for Acimovic and maybe my memory is playing tricks but I'm sure he showed the odd moment of brilliance?

Thanks for bringing the golden years flooding back! 😬🤣

I too hoped he would come good but after 4 free transfers he finally reached his level in Austria

You would hope we have some clauses for these clubs if they win something we get a little bonus money
