We need to get the best put of lo celso and Ndomble so we have to go 4-3-3. JM needs to pick on of Winks/Skipp/Dier to shield defence

Under the poch 4-2-3-1, dele wasnt cemtral so cant see why we cant have a lop sided 4-3-3 with dele off the right. Bergwijn is better suited for that role but dele should be given the oppurtunity to play there

I think with the right determination and coaching it could be possible, but I haven't really seen enough development or progression to suggest he'll flourish in that role. Dele has improved a bit this year but he's largely still doing the same things that pissed us off 4 years ago and made "FFS Dele" such a running joke. The very best players (i.e. Lampard) work tirelessly to identify and iron out these weaknesses and I just don't see that from him.

I really hope I'm wrong, mind, as the talent is definitely there. Just seems to me like he's coasting a bit and not maximizing his potential.

Felt that way (bolded) about the whole team last year to be fair. Kane and Son excepted. Hoping the current situation gives the whole squad a chance to remember why they play the game and shake off the disappointment of nearly winning the league (twice) and champions league.to turn the burn of that into anger and determination. Also, coming in when he did, Jose couldn't really do much else than try and get them all playing the way they already knew. With Dele, that was playing as you say.

I still agree and disagree with you. I think to be clearer, I agree with your analysis of what's happened but I disagree with being as pessimistic about this being where Dele's upward journey ends. It's sink or swim for him at the top end of the game and i think he's a swimmer. Takes a lot of determination to get through what he did and do so well for spurs. That kind of determination, with good management, makes me believe. Him and Bergwijn playing together, with Kane, Son, Ndombele hitting some form, Lo Celso making them stay honest. We have an incredibly good squad. If Jose can make them see just how good they are, and set them up right, we are at the start of something special

<Whispers> trophies.

Agree and disagree. I think Dele has the potential to play the Lampard role to perfection as one of a midfield 3. We'd need a good defensive midfielder though. That said, he'd have to adapt his game and focus on playmaking through balls and arriving in the box at the right time. Rather than the flicks and skills he uses when behind Kane. He's got the talent to excel in that role. He currently excels as a 9-1/2

Ndombele's flair and Dele's creativity and finishing +1 defensive minded player could be a wonderful midfield 3 with good coaching. Not where we are yet but next season....
IMO, first name on the team sheet to play in a midfield 3 should be Lo Celso. I honestly think in a CM3 with a proper DM behind him, he will add goals and assists. He controls the game better than Dele and Ndombele, he links the midfield to attack better than either player and he is defensively better than either too. Ndomebele has the potential to be one of the best CMs in the world (as does Lo Celso IMO) but he needs to massively improve his stamina and work rate.

Dele has got the killer ball in him and and a good scoring rate, but he needs to learn when to try an force play through and when to keep possession, other wise too many attacks will keep getting coughed up (not just Dele at fault for this), which puts more pressure on our defence.

Tbh our best bet would be to rotate according to the opposition.

Bergwijn is probably better in more open games whereas Alli, as more of a finisher, will always be useful as a presence in the box against teams that sit deep.

Whichever one we play, if the balance of the team isn't right and we're still shaky at the back and unable to link the midfield and the attack, we'll be shit regardless.

I think he could well be a player to save until second halves when opponent defenders are tired. With the 5 sub rule it’s going to be a bit of a game of chess as to when bring players on.

If only we were good at shutting up shop and taking advantage that way. For two years this team has been gifting teams the first goal so I don’t see that changing. Unfortunately that could be a real problem in these games which I expect to involve long periods of low intensity. Definitely those early games anyway.

Absolutely, I know time has passed but people are forgetting or underestimating the fact that we have a huge Eriksen shaped hole in what made our recent sides great. Lo Celso is our best bet in filling that hole and has to play when fit.

Lo Celso is versatile as well, he can play DM, CM and ACM.

Given the limitations of Winks and Dier I would like to see:

———————— Lloris ————————
Aurier—Alderweireld - Sanchez — Sessegnon
Fernandes —— Lo Celso —— Ndombele
Bergwijn ———— Kane ———— Son

Pace, power, strength, balance, skill and creativity on all flanks and right throughout the team.

With a bench of:

Gazzaniga, Tanganga, Dier, Winks, Sissoko, Alli, Moura

That midfield with those fullbacks is a recipe for disaster. We'd get destroyed by any team with a half decent attack.

If you want Ndombele in the side and 2 attacking fullbacks you at least need some kind of defensive midfield anchor/destroyer. Lo Celso is tenacious but that's not his biggest strength.

If you don't fancy Winks or Dier, I'd certainly prefer Skipp in there to Fernandes. Or even Sissoko to help cover Aurier on the right side.

There is literally zero balance in that side. No defensive protection in midfield and two fulbacks who can’t defend for toffee.

This guy is awesome.

Most will disagree but with the way he’s hit the ground running I think he’s the best signing we’ve made this year. He has massive potential.

Him and Son are going to make up one of the best wing duos in the world.

I'm very excited about him.

But knowing our luck he'll get an injury that robs him of that searing acceleration.

His goal and the way he got away from the defence was like Lucas in the away fixture against them last season.
