Will be great to have him back - he has the makings of a very good player.

Quietly optimistic about Bergwijn. I think it's unlikely he'll jump up to superstar level like Son or Bale, but he looks like a talented, intelligent player. He seemed to lose his way a little bit in the last few games pre-lockdown, but then he was in a dysfunctional team with no strikers so it's hard to blame him.

Fingers crossed he can push on and have a strong end to the season.

I have this feeling Mourinho might go gung ho again with a 4-2-3-1 with Alli behind Kane, Son and Bergwijn.

Interesting to see if this would work depending on who the middle two engine room midfielders would be although personally would have more faith in a midfield three of Winks and Lo Ceso with either Skipp or Dier as defensive midfielder (Ndombele of course also an option for Winks but depends on his fitness and condition as per usual - Winks may be safer option and really benefit from a midfield three with a proper defensive midfielder).

With Ndombele, Lo Celso and a DM behind them
This is the dream.

Kane up top, 2 quick exciting wide forwards, 2 skilful creative, ball-retaining midfielders and a DM mopping up behind them.

In reality it's infinitely more complicated than that, but if we could get that system to work the potential is mahoosive.

Would require Jose to drop Alli, though, and I just can't see that happening.

Alli will have to fight for his place with Lo Celso and Ndombele I guess. Plenty of games to go around for a team at the level we want to play at.

Even though he has the talent I don’t believe Ndombele has earnt a starting place and needs to come off bench and work for it for me personally.

(apologies for derailing thread just seemed to fit with current posts and we are discussing how best to deploy Bergwijn lol :) ).

I also think Alli might be better suited to coming in off the left in that scenario especially if there's no number 10 behind Kane.

Bergwijn might surprise us with the extent of his quality. I've seen it mentioned that he is a big game player and his debut kind of supports that

I think Ali is best with in free role as one of an attacking three. But he's slow and so is Kane. A front three of Ali, Son and Kane isn't dynamic enough IMO.

I'd prefer Son, Steve, Kane, with (as has been said) Lo Celso, Ndombele and a DMF in a three.

Mou just doesn't seem to want to drop Ali though and I think it's a problem for us.

Exactly. One thing that frustrated me over the last few years is that the first XI picked itself when everyone was fit. If there's no champions league (ala Chelsea under Conte) that can win you the league but winning teams need to rotate with quality players. We've always been a few short (injuries didn't help) . A few more this summer and we could have two genuine quality starters for each place. Fighting for a place is necessary to winning.

I feel like our options for attacking players is the strongest it's ever been.

Lo Celso / Ndombele
Son / Moura
Bergwijn / Dele
Kane

I mean it doesn't get much better than that for a club of our stature in terms of attacking options, just the rest of the areas in the team are not stacked in a similar fashion.
