We've triggered his contract extension rather than given him a new contract so I think we can read into that he'll be waving goodbye in 2026.
According to Romano who broke the news we would trigger the extension back in November, "At least one more season for Son at Spurs, this is the plan of the club".

Sounds more like both sides will assess how he is going physically next season before making any decisions, rather than definitely going in 2026.

I think the club will be very unhappy if we're in a position where we need to drag another season out of him after summer 26. That's really not where they want to be.

I don’t see this as good news. We have simply triggered an extension so he can’t leave on a free.

this chap arguably should have left years ago. He has the talent and yeah the name to win it all but he has been so loyal, probably to a fault. So yeah I hear that you shouldn’t be sentimental but a nice two year or even three year deal as a thank you for everything would have been nice.

we should appreciate him whilst we still have him.
I honestly don't believe that's the case, I'm sure he's down with the deal as he would like another year here. Perhaps he can see change happening and feels he can win a trophy or two before he goes.

Son may also want to see the lay of the land in 2026. If he hasn't been given assurances or promises, as he shouldn't, it may be a mutual extension rather than a new contract. A lot of things can change in 1-2 years. If Moore, Yang, Odobert or new signings stake a claim in the starting eleven, other options may present themselves to him.

We have 4 wingers between the age of 20 and 16 that have a lot of potential and, depending on how they are tracking, if Son is rotated properly and still performing, it might make more sense to extend Son's contract by another year and cash in on Johnson (if he doesn't develop) at the end of 2026.

I think having Son as a mentor for the young players, Hyuk especially, was probably part of the thinking.

Even as an option off the bench (injuries permitting) he is worth keeping around. Would happily have him retire here, just hope we can win something with him.

Has Son posted anything on his socials since the news broke? Haven't heard much noise from his camp which seems strange.

I'm probably reaching here but I have this feeling that he may have been eyeing a move in the summer.

Can you read that into it? We have trigged the extension as it makes sense too. I don’t think next year is necessarily the last year of Sonny

I think next season if we win something by significant he will retire gracefully with us if not somewhere like Italy with one of their giants where the pace of the game isn’t as intense. He could even do a bit part job in Bayern. But it’d be a shame if he didn’t win anything domestically

Far too much sentiment shown on here. Granted, Son has been a magnificent servant and exceptional player and a joy to have at this club, but his race is run and we should be planning for next season without him.

We would be much stronger with him in the squad than without him. He will likely transition to a squad player - not many sides could boast such a good player coming on from the bench.

Hope we can sign a starter to rotate with him next season then...clearly he cannot play all games in a season. Maybe we will just use Moore/Yang/Odobert, who knows

Probably the sensible decision. Sure we could have given him a new deal as a thank you but i think it would have been on slightly reduced terms so at least here he’ll get his current salary. He still has a lot to offer but we have to manage his minutes.

Good choice to keep him and yes I love him but he has been flogged to death since Harry left. I think many forget he is the age he is.
