Not really a decision Ange could win. Had Son been left on and tweaked the hamstring again, the same people complaining about this substitution would've been raging.

Apparently Sonny personally invited this team of E gamers from Korea, happened to competed and won an event in London, to see today’s game.

I’m not a gamer but I know who this player “Faker” is, considered GOAT in his field.

So I can understand him wanted to stay on the pitch that little bit more than usual and I mean, 55 mins’ really early even I understand why.

Tottenham Hotspur are to trigger a one-year option on Son Heung-min’s contract to commit his future to the club beyond the current season.

The Spurs and South Korea captain signed his latest deal in 2021 which expires in seven months’ time and it is understood that his club holds the power to extend for a further year.

Spurs only need to inform Son they have triggered their option and Telegraph Sport understands they fully intend to do so.

It means Son will head into a second decade at the club after joining from Bayer Leverkusen in 2015 in a deal worth £22 million, which has been rated as one of Spurs’ finest achievements in the transfer market in the modern era.

Ange Postecoglou appointed the 32-year-old captain at Spurs after Hugo Lloris’ departure, having played a huge part in the club emerging as Champions League regulars during his nine-and-a-half years at the club.

The forward has reached double figures for goals in all but his first season at the club, with his haul of 123 in the Premier League making him the joint-third top scorer currently playing in the competition. Only Mohamed Salah (164) and Jamie Vardy (140) have scored more.

Son was asked about his contract earlier this season and insisted he was focused on ending Spurs’ trophy drought, which dates back to 2008, rather than looking at a new deal.

While at the club, Son has reached the final of the Champions League and EFL Cup but has yet to win a trophy.

“I am fully focused on this year and just want to win something that everybody at the club – the players, all around – deserves,” he said. “That’s what I’m working for.

“In the future you never know what will happen, but I will give everything for this club because it’s been almost 10 years and I give everything.

“I still have a contract with the club which is the very important thing and I just want to give everything until my contract [expires].”

Spurs are lying in seventh place in the Premier League, with 16 points, nine behind leaders Liverpool, but just two points off fourth place.

Postecoglou’s side are also well-placed in the 36-team Europa League table, where they sit second on goal difference after three wins out of three, and have reached the EFL quarter-finals, with a home tie against Manchester United scheduled for next month.

Was any supporter really surprised when he was subbed after missing several games after injury?
Ange seems to like to protect players.

Given how he was playing at that time and with the game in the balance yep it was quite surprising. Villa fans in the "what opponent fans are saying about us" thread were also surprised/happy we subbed him off at that moment also as he was our most threatening attacker in that spell and still had the momentum.

Of course i get why Ange planned to make the sub just thought he mightve given it another 5.

What is slightly odd is if the plan was 55 mins only then why didn't he just tell him before the game?!!

Yeah that crossed my mind.

Im sure it was discussed he wouldnt play the whole 90, just in the contexrt of him assisting and bursting into life....the timing obviously perplexed him like it did to us all lol

It was a surprising substitution. He was playing really well and still had the adrenaline from the equaliser, and he was probably our most threatening player in the 5mins after the goal.

Game went our way in the end but it was still a surprise at the 55min mark so i can understand the frustration, but it was for the longer term (same way we subbed romero early vs city when we were defending all second half), and Son probably more than most will realise it was for his own good once hes let the moment go.

Theres not been a more "club" player than Son the last decade so to question his attitude/reaction is pretty obsurd tbh.

To think that players cleared the bench because of him is even more obsurd
.
What if he farted? Like a really bad Korean chicken fart

It’s in 4-4-2 magazine and relates to any increase in pay . Says we will take up the option of another year, but on same money, no pay increase. Non story really.
It sort of makes sense as he probably only has 1 more year in him at the level needed. Also allows him to help in Yang’s integration in the club.

Son could easily have another 2-3 years as a really effective PL player. He doesn’t look spent, the ball he played last weekend was stunning. I would be really shocked if he wasn’t here for at least 2 more years
