As a few others have said, it'll be interesting to see what happens if he's still here after all the windows shut. I get that he's not an ideal fit and/or not quite the standard we need, and I'm not suggesting for a moment that we should be looking to keep him or offer him a new deal. But for better or worse he's here, we're paying his wages, and he plays in a position where we lack cover. So unless he's being a complete arse behind the scenes I don't really understand why we'd freeze him out completely.

As I recall, there was a general wish for someone who would fire quality crosses in to the box with some regularity. He seemed a dab hand at that sort of thing throughout his time at Frankfurt. Some engine on him too.

Turkish clubs have reportedly given up on signing Trippier. I know he’s a right back but could they turn their attention to Reggie. It’s our only hope. Looks like he’s pushing for a pay off.

What good is a pay off really though? He won't be able to register with teams until January now. I cant imagine a pay off allows them to get a signing on bonus too. I guess the player has a right to the money on their contract but if they don't push for a move it's a bit shit. What happened to players actually wanting to play football?

Think this was probably a case of the agent thinking the club would relent and pay him off before the transfer deadline so he could join barcelona or any other decent club that were interested but didn't want to pay a fee. I'm glad we didn't though. It just sends out the wrong signal. At least now him and his agent will have to consider proposals in Jan that work for the club or risk not playing football for a whole season.

Makes sense given we are short of cover at LB. Don't think he'll shift Davies from the bench as he covers two positions, but at some point either Udogie or Davies will be missing so having a specialist LB - even if not of the right calibre - is better than nothing.

I can never find the rule but I'm pretty sure you're not allowed to not register players domestically if you have room in your squad, to avoid "artificially" creating space to sign free agents after the window closes.

Max Robson is also registered in the squad, presumably for the same reason.

EDIT: Ultimately we've registered Robson in the PL squad and not in the Europa squad, even though he would have been a free pick for the latter as he's club trained. That means one of the following things must be true:

1) we forgot Robson was no longer U21 when submitting the Europa squad; or
2) we decided he might be useful domestically but not in Europe; or
3) we had a choice not to register him in Europe but didn't have that choice domestically

Forgot. Same as we forgot we had loaned the max of players and had to pay Doherty off instead of loaning him to Athletico A couple of yrs ago.
