(You lot have got me excited for him though)

I just cant see us going for a left back this window. We will most likely get a 2nd striker, 3rd GK (if Gazzaniga sold), a midfielder if Ndombele is sold/loaned. Other than that, I dont see any other deal happening .

Another thing I'd wonder is whether Real would allow him to leave without a buy-back clause?

I’m down for this one for sure. He’s very good and could get even better.

I’d sign up even with the buyback. All about the structure. 2 years until they can exercise and in the 40-45M area. Worst case is they exercise and you’ve got the funds right there to buy the next LB.

It’s not going to open Pandora’s box. It’s a young talented player from Real Madrid.

And if he ends up looking really good, they’re going to be able to buy him anyway.

Yeah, but that's a buyback on Tottenham's terms. There's nothing to say Real Madrid would accept that.

I think SR with MDoc would give us infinitely better balance and attacking threat.
I could see a 5-3-2 which would also help support Kane up top.
Jose loves Dier who would work well with Toby and Davies (DS in rotation where needed)
PEH to anchor the 3 with GLC and Dele would be solid too.
Moura Berg Lamela would give us some genuine options in game and as alternatives also.

A back 4 with SR and MD would be very unlikely

It would make sense to have attacking FB both sides to play against different teams and exploit specific weaknesses even if we play only one most games. Tanganga could easily do the Davies job on the right side. Or Foyth if he stays.

I wouldn’t rule out a back 4 with 2 attacking fullbacks. Liverpool do it, and all indications this preseason are that we’re gonna be pressing high this year. I know we played a league 1 side and two championship sides, but I could see us approaching at least the games against lesser sides with for example Doherty and reguilon. We played the last 25-30 mins today with both aurier and sessegnon high up. Neither TAA and Robertson are great defensively, especially 1v1, and it doesn’t hurt Liverpool, although they have 2 rapid center backs, one of which is the best in the world. Now I’m sort of making your point, but I can definitely see a Liverpool-esque set up this season, going off our preseason.
Edit: and it’s not like Doherty or reguilon are bad defensively either.

davies is more than capable of playing LCB as weve seen on numerous occasions for wales, doherty and reguillon bombing down the wings 3 cbs and hojbjerg sitting gives us alot of options going forward and alot of different formation to switch into when things arent going to plan

I was just getting used to tempering down my expectations once again and now we're linked with this guy and Van De Beek.

Would surely mean we will only use Sessegnon at left wing because he’d barely get a game at LB. He’s ace but we’re gonna have to shift some non HG players to make this work.

My word a window of:

Højbjerg
Hart
Doherty
Reguilon
CF
CB

Whilst cutting the squad down would be outstanding.

Could mean that we would loan Sessegnon out with a view to eventually selling Davies in a year or two.

Alasdair:
The Spaniard is another player Tottenham have watched in recent years and admire, but football.london understands that the north London club are not currently planning to sign a left-back in this window.
