I actually have no issue with Tanganga as a right back deputising for a more senior option. Even if long term he’s a centre back, he’ll get more minutes that way and it’ll help his awareness as a centre back if he eventually moved back to the middle. Judas breakthrough season under Ardiles (he only played the once under Venables I think) he was almost always at full back, either side too, and there are clear stylistic similarities between Judas and Tanganga.

Additionally, I’m not convinced Tanganga is a long term centre back. He’s got a great physique for the modern right back, is very quick and seems more than comfortable enough on the ball. Throw in that he’s a touch on the short side compared to most centre backs and I’d not be shocked to see him end up out wide.

How did Tanganga at RB is better than Aurier?
Did you not read what I said? I said the RB we bring in will be better. With Tanganga a clear upgrade on KWP.

To add, I think Tanganga is already a better reader of the game than Aurier. A more solid defender. Lacks the experience but I have no doubt that he will be a miles better player than Aurier.

This is just total speculation but I think Serge Aurier is a bad influence on Ndombele. Aurier an absolute loon and not really a serious footballer yet you always see them palling around together in videos.

Maybe two Parisian young adults just have a fair bit in common and are friends? Are you also uneasy about Dele and Dier’s friendship?

So...here goes.

All of these RBs I see Spurs linked to and many debating their pros and cons.It appears many aren't down with Aurier, and personally, I feel some are purely looking at his negatives as opposed to his positive input also.

Whilst I appreciate stats don't paint the true picture, SSN has Aurier as second in the table for tackles made this season. Other sites have him placed in the top 5. These include Midfielders also.

He's provided 5 Premier league assists, along with a couple in the Champions league.

Add to this, I can recall a couple of occasions where he's got across to cover and get a last ditch tackle or block in to prevent what looked like a certain goal.

So, yes I can concede that there have been brain farts, costly errors, crap crosses. But I don't think he's as useless as some give the impression he is.

Of course, if an upgrade becomes available, or younger potential with maybe a considered higher ceiling, then great, let's have a go.

But I for one can actually see this past season that Aurier has performed rather well and provided some key moments in games.
I personally find tackles not the most helpful of stats, more indicative of style rather than 'defensive ability'. Aurier goes in for the tackle often and early, and it is positive, in the sense it can help counter attack and all that, but he isn't defensively good, a lot of his last ditch tackles also come from previous mistakes, positional mistakes. His high tackle rate shows his aggression, in fact that is normally the most logical thing to get out of tackle rates, tackle success (though depends how success is calculated) is more likely to show technical ability in tackling and yeh that's sort of it.

For fullbacks I think looking at blocked crosses is really important, but statistics are really bad at giving any sort of knowledge on positioning etc. Aurier is hyper aggressive and hyper willing, and he is good at it, but he is still a big weakness defensively, and is very inconsistent. I think his positives probably outweigh his negatives, but I can see why we would want to look at younger options as well as more steady eddy types. If he stays or goes will depend on his own wishes and if the fee is good enough. Which is why we shouldn't be scared to place a high asking price on him.

If Aurier stays then I hope Tanganga would be RB next season, as I think he would be better there than either Aurier or KWP (based on the 3 or 4 games Tanganga played FB this season). So if it is Tanganga plus one I think we will be better off.

There is a really simple reason why Aurier and Ndombele are always together. Ndombele speaks very little English and Aurier isn't a confident speaker in English. Sissoko is still very much translating at points for both. They are a little isolated but there you go. Right now Aurier is probably a good influence on Ndombele, as long as both also aim to work on improving their English.

I think Aurier is immature at points, and judging by past comments maybe not a particularly pleasant individual, but he absolutely gives a fuck. Based on interviews he amongst the worst losers/most competitive players in the team, and I see this as a positive influence in a footballing sense. The problem with Aurier I always find, is that often it is as if he focuses too much on his own individual duals within games rather than the bigger picture. But I feel this has improved.

27 years old and 2 years left on his contract.

What do you reckon he's worth in a Pre-covid world? £18m-£22m?

I doubt any club is going to pay that for him now. And Levy won't sell him at a cut price.

Very doubtful he's going anywhere.

I did mention a few weeks back that the price point would be an issue (above).

It'll be interesting how this plays out.

its probably just as well...if he was sold, we would only land up with a cheap replacement that likely wouldn't even be as good...

Feels like a pretty normal negotiation to me. Buyer leaks their desired price. Seller leaks their desired price. Gap is large on a % basis but not that huge overall. Both sides have room to meet in the middle and claim they were able to move the other off the starting point.

At end of day, question will be whether we feel good about landing an option that’s an upgrade to Serge.

Shouldn’t be that hard given that we’ve likely had 12+ months to know we need a new RB, but given the joke that our scouting/recruiting effort is who knows.
