thought poor today, just tosses it off when trying to get back, for the 2nd goal guy ran thirty yards behind him for the overlap and a dangerous attack so slow to block the cross

I'm watching the highlights and Southamptons first two attacks are down our right flank and he is no where near the attacker just jogging back. He may produce moments of brilliance but he's still a liability. Not saying the attacks were his fault but he is no where to be found.

And for their goal, he has no idea where Shane Long is.

What some people don't understand is that Aurier probably does the most intense sprints out of all our players per 90, and plays every game. Thats truly tiring so sometimes a mf/cb has to cover for you. I'm not saying he's faultless but some over analyse every perceived mistake just to beat him. I like Aurier, think he's more than adequate, and his crossing isn't half bad. I don't think rb is a pressing issue at all.

Right backs a big issue.. we are basically playing without one when Aurier plays as he is so far up the pitch and out of the right back position a lot of the time! Pretty obvious that teams are targeting us down his side as they know they can easily get in behind him

I haven't noticed a predisposition for teams to attack our right flank but if what you say is true, whose fault is that?

It’s pretty obvious he’s not good enough but the club couldn’t realistically do anything about that in January.
I have no doubt we’ll sign a new first choice in the summer, until then this thread will be very repetitive because he will keep making the same mistakes and showing the same flaws. He cannot be coached.

Mourinho wants Aurier to join in when we attack the opposition and also instructs him to press deep in the opponents half. Therefore the midfielders are of course required to cover for him. I am sure Mourinho expects that to happen. However some tactically clueless people expect Aurier to sprint up and down the field the whole game and accusing him of being lazy when some times it was the midfielder not covering adequately. So what if he is the right back? It's a team game and players suppose to switch and cover for each other.

Aurier was often playing as a winger yesterday and seeing as mourinho was in yelling distance i assume was doing his job as told. When he bombs forward as a winger others have to cover, if they don't that is due to them not him. You can see this is all tactical as that is why mourinho is playing with 3 centre back like players from left back area across and in right back Aurier pushes further up. The issue yesterday as well is that we played with wing backs so Aurier was the attacking element on the right side, tanganga, toby and jan should have all been covering along with dier when Aurier pushes up.

yeah Aurier has made some mistakes but he also provides a lot , this is not difficult tactics though to understand. you can tell he is being asked to be a more attacking outlet. If so that means he won't be back in position when hit on the break. This isn't hard stuff to understand.

i think some of you on here might be paying a little too much attention to sky sports lazy match commentary

Following Mourinho's orders and not playing right back in the first half. Such a wild-card
Imagine if we had a RB who the coach could actually trust to play RB... I don’t buy it for one second that Mourinho asks him not to track back. It’s not even that he’s too high up the pitch look at the screen shots, he’s around the 18. He’s just not paying attention.

But Jose has said it himself that this is on his orders. So a lot of the fault lies with Jose's tactics then. His positioning is poor at times nonetheless though I agree.

Another poor game today from Aurier. Loads of misplaced passes and turnovers. His constant fouling really not only get the opposition fans up and going, but stop our momentum.
