Fair enough. One more chance for him

Asked if he had wanted to leave, Aurier said: "Yes, but that was the situation before the transfer window closed. Now I'm feeling calm and happy to stay. I've spoken with everyone and I don't want to leave. I had something in my head, but I didn't want to leave for the gaffer or the chairman.

"It was a personal situation and now it's OK. Everyone wants to give me another chance. We need to give our best for this season and for the trophies. The new season has started for me and that is it.

"It was my first game in this stadium, my family were there. Nothing has changed in my life. I stay and now I want to prove myself, give my best for the supporters, for the club, for everyone."

Lacks discipline, mental errors, liability, not good enough defensively, mistakes, decision making. The one and only Aurier has a mighty job convincing people he is a decent player.
Without that 2nd sentence, i’d have thought you were talking about Trippier

I hope this positive mindset stays with him. He showed at the weekend what he can do with a positive frame of mind and full fitness.

In spite of all the criticism he is a) our best right back and b) that was his first game of the season.

There's a long way to go towards a consistent output following his first game back - but he's here, he seems committed and i hope he takes his chance. I have faith in Poch's ability to coach a defensive unit (although we have had a slow start) and i also have faith in Aurier's abilities.

He's great in a game like the one against Palace where his defensive responsibilities are minimal and he isn't put under a lot of pressure. If he can put in performances like that against better teams, then it will be a huge help for us. Starting RB spot is there to be won for whoever can step up.

I like Serge and hasn’t made nearly as many mistakes as the (Sissoko is shit) small but vocal merchants make out

For me he’s very much in the mould of Chimbonda. He’s got everything, pace, power, aggression and some ability on the ball

His problem is staying switched on for 95 mins and not taking it too easy during certain times in a game. There was an incident 2nd half Saturday where he lost a header in our own box to Townsend (I think) would never happen if he was 'on it' all the time

Nah, it's fair - and it's true.

What's unfair is inane, inaccurate criticism being levelled at him. He has never been given a decent run of games, mostly having to play second-fiddle to somebody who was a vastly inferior defender. Saying he's capable of "lapses of concentration" and "bonehead mistakes" is yawn-inducing bollocks. Name one full-back that hasn't made defensive mistakes. Walker, messes up all the time. TAA, defensive fragility massively compensated for by VvD's existence.

Anybody that doesn't think his reputation has played a part in a load of our fans not taking to him is blinkered imvho. If he put in half of the performances Trippier did last season, he'd have been hounded out of Walthamstow or wherever he lives. His performance against Dortmund > anything Trippier ever produced for us.

What performances are you saying plagued his time with us, exactly?

fuck I cant remember the actual opponents game by game but keep watching because there will almost certainly be more of them.

He’s a weird bloke isn’t he... Hope it works out for him here.

Can’t say I’m particularly impressed with how quickly he seemed to emotionally check out of the club. Gonna need a little more fight in him than that if he’s going to make it here.

So. What's wrong with him that's he's not travelled.

Again the club are clear as mud.

I doubt he is seen as fit enough to play 3 games in a week so he is resting for Leicester would be my guess.

Youre most likely right but he really needs a run of games as I think that's when he will be in his rhythm and at his best. This stop start business hasn't worked for him in the past. It does seem that when he plays well one game he is rested in the following game or two...

One game a week isn't stop start though really, if he can't remain consistent over a 38 game season on average then he's got issues.

Playing 1 game a week wont affect his rhythm though will it?

Well hopefully it doesn't affect it. In theory it shouldn't but whenever he has had a run of games, albeit not many times it has happened, he has looked far better than playing the odd game.

I have no doubt he will be back for the Leicester game.

I'm glad he's being rested for Leicester, It's going to be a tough game and with City having defensive issues and Liv facing Chelsea I'd like to see us try and capitalise.

Has no one noticed that we've had Trippier, Aurier, KWP and Rose (all decent fullbacks capable of producing very good displays) all fall out of form over the exact same period - although in KWP case its an inability to cement the role.

I don't think its because of the players primarily but more so the lack of an anchoring midfielder and the centrebacks not splitting far enough to cover the fullbacks forward movements. The get caught out far more and as a result they don't attack with the same confidence

Tonight’s game isn’t exactly a gimme though.
