I didn't see anything in him today that I haven't seen before which is why I never understood why people thought him a bad player.

I'd imagine Poch sees him as our number 1 RB. It will be interesting when KWP and Foyth are back from injury to see who Poch prefers in the bigger games. All three are clearly capable, it's just whether one of them makes the position his.

We will rotate though throughout the season, as this is what Poch has always done with his full-backs since he's been at Spurs.

Good to see him back in team and having a good performance.

Would be happy to see him as first choice but would like it if KWP is used as understudy to continue blooding him and see how he does.

Was very good on both sides of the ball yesterday. Wasn't too happy with the flippancy of the interview he gave recently but he backed up his talk big time.

Don't know if I would want him to start both games this week though, as 3 games in 8 days from your fullbacks when they're your only width in attack is asking for trouble. Both games are going to be difficult though and I don't know which one I'd prefer him to play in.

The header he won from Lloris’ kick out showed a bit of fight that our right side has missed for some while. It also lead to a goal, rather than conceding possession, which is normally what happens. These little moments win and lose games. He’s not the messiah, but yesterday was the best performance from a RB for us in a long long while. Good luck to him.

It seems to me that there is tendency on here to exaggerate some player's capabilities to prove a point one way or the other. Just looking at the posts from last week on here suggests that. Serge seems to be in that category. Serge is a pretty talented player but he shown significant faults in the past. (Switching off as well as mental errors. And the foul throw ins only magnified that perception.) Poch pretty much confirmed thta with his statement yesterday. It seemed to me it would take a couple of years for Poch to turn him into a mentally disciplined player if he was capable of that. We can only hope that he has turned that corner because that would not only be a major problem solved both defensively while allowing the club to prioritize other positions.

Mental errors? You make him sound incapable.

KWP has never put in a cross of the quality of Aurier's for Son's second yesterday. KWP is also never winning that header to start the move for the same goal, either.

KWP has lots of positive attributes but he can't make himself taller or more of a natural athlete - but Aurier can be coached to iron out the mistakes.

Here's the actual interview, in French where he does indeed say what he's reported as saying. It was no wind up or joke.

I chose my words carefully and would never suggest he is incapable but rather undisciplined in his thinking. Not even sure how one can extrapolate from mental errors to incapable. It seems to me he has made quite a few rash challenges in dangerous areas with a low potential for success. I am hoping he becomes our go to RB but don't think he has been consistent enough to claim that spot.

He definitely has tendacy to switch off in parts, however he has set a bar yesterday which i expect Poch thinks he should deliver every game. If he does that then hes starts and theres no issue and he will then get the cuddle from Poch he craves.

I get why he wanted to leave. Imagine seeing Trippier put in 4/10 performances, scoring an own goal and generally getting caught out of position and still being considered 2nd choice RB. Aurier did have to contend with a series of injuries but it always seemed that Poch rated Tripps over Aurier. Hopefully a consistent run of games can help Serge gain some more confidence and form to help the team.

I think that he brings physicality which KWP doesn’t have and easily gets knocked of the ball. I prefer Aurier especially when Sissoko is in the team.

Yup. KWP is just too powder puff and at 22 years of age his not exactly a kid anymore. Unless he works on his strength, I'm struggling to see him make it at this level. Get's swatted away like a fly far too often and does seem like a boy playing a mans game. Just couldn't see KWP winning the ball in the air like Aurier did for our 3rd goal.

our fan base swings wildly on the rb (and many other issues).
Reality is that Poch has 3 players that are works in progress - Aurier, KWP and Foyth.
Aurier was v good against Palace but can be a bit shit
KWP - some MOM performances in the Prem but can see young and a bit callow
Foyth can seem liable to silly moments
At the end of the season, two of the three will be our RB's and one may be sold (unless Foyth is moved back to CB).

Everyone who has watched what Aurier can do at the best of times would know that he's more than capable of performances like the one he had this weekend. My negativity towards him was more about what he's played like for most of his career with us. Nothing would be better than him having turned a corner and start getting the best out of his abilities, and him putting up a masterclass after the preseason he's had was a very welcome bonus.
