Just realized he's only 4 months older than Oliver Skipp. Puts in perspective how young he is and how much room he has to develop.

I've seen it mentioned several times that he is "Premier league proven" . Whilst he has played a season in the Premier league, it's not as if he (or Fulham) pulled up any trees during that season.
That's not to criticise him, especially as he is still so young and obviously a talent, just that the phrase gets thrown around far too easily.

True, but in the context of a 19 year old, the phrase 'Premier League proven' has a more significant meaning.

How many 19 year olds have 30 PL caps? (or 18 year olds, since he was 18 when he won them).

We'll probably find that the young players that did, or do, have those caps went on to have fantastic careers.

Worth saying he played in almost all the wide positions available in that time. It is really impressive and demonstrates Fulham’s belief in his overall ability anywhere on the pitch.

Correct.. Rooney, Messi, Ronaldo, Fabregas and to some degree Michael Owen are testament to your argument

I’m a little bit meh about signing this guy. What makes everyone so certain that he’s ready to make the step up?

No one can be certain, but he’s only 18 and already been immense in the championship.
And it’s better to do the deal now than maybe 3/4 years when he’s possibly worth 2/3 times as much

The fact he's already got 115 senior starts under his belt, including 33 in the Premier League, by the time he turned 19.

In contrast, Dele Alli had 88 starts to his name by the time we signed him at 19, all of which were in League One.

Of course there's no guarantee Sessegnon will work out, but all the signs are there, and his value isn't going down any time soon. It's a calculated risk with potentially huge reward.

To add to the two posts above, he managed 2 goals and 6 assists last season in a terrible Fulham team. Not world beating stats, sure, but you have to consider that he played under 3 different managers, in 4 different positions (LB, LW, RW, CAM) and spent a lot of time on the bench, as well as him only being 18 and in his first season in the toughest league in the world, then he clearly hasn't done too badly at all.

And then you throw in his performances in the Championship the year before as a 17 year old.

He might not end up being a top tier player, but he's definitely done enough to show he's worth the investment.

To put this into perspective players like Maddison played championship that season and sess was head and shoulders above them and people would love Maddison if sess was in a half decent team last season he would have done a lot of damage in the prem

6 assists, 2 goals in 26 starts and 8 sub appearances, playing for a terrible side that was relegated, and the most starts he made in any one position was 7 (left wing). He finished this season as an almost 19 year old.

Albeit disrupted by injury, Bale managed 2 goals and no assists in his first two seasons in the premier league, and by the end of his third season (when he finally broke though and we qualified for the champions league) he had 5 goals and 5 assists across his first three seasons. He finished that season as an almost 21 year old.

That’s why people here are excited by Sessegnon.

It's pretty clear to anyone who has followed this kids development that he is going to be something special in a few years potentially world class.

To those who aren't excited about the prospect of signing him I am hoping this is down to not following his development throughout the past 3 years. I have, and I can say without a doubt in my mind that he will be special. I can't even imagine how much he could develop under Poch.

I've watched a lot of Fulham so probably seen him play more than most 'neutrals'. Apart from the obvious stuff, the thing that impressed me most was his runs off the ball, inside and outside of the full back, again and again and again. Intelligent runs. The big difference in his form last season compared to the previous Championship campaign for me was that in the Championship someone (usually Cairney) found him with a pass,so he scored more goals and made more assists with well placed crosses. Last season, he was still relentlessly making those runs but the Fulham midfield was gash and ponderous, so he wasn't found. But believe me, he kept making the runs. He's a good player waiting to become a very good player and with a bit of luck he could follow a similar path to Gareth Bale - left back, left wing , right side of front three, lots of goals (but without the fucking off to Madrid part of course).

My grandad's a Fulham season ticket holder of 50 odd years, so I trust his judgement on the player... He said he was really poor this season in quite a few aspects of his game. That being said he's young, has great potential and no one was good in that team during the season.

No brainer signing but not expecting him to hit the ground running straight away after the season he had.

At worst Sessegnon is going to be a decent, versatile and energetic player to have in our squad. At best he’ll be an absolute star for years to come. Plus he’s homegrown. This is a very sensible signing that could turn out to be a great one.

My problem with goal and assist stats is that they don't give the number of chances he set up for other players who were so piss poor that they fluffed the chance, with strikers worth the name his assists stat would have been higher.
