Sessegnon needs to play some U23 games to build up his sharpness before he can be ready for the first team.

I think he's gonna find a role in Mou's team if we stick to a 4-3-3. He's the only other natural winger we have aside from Son and Lucas. Eriksen's spot in the squad for next match is certainly up for grabs (and I don't think Lamela will be fit for the match either). We saw what he was capable of providing out wide off the bench in our last Champion's League match.

Agree. He's Son's backup at the moment on the left. Lamela will rotate with Lucas on the right.

It must, surely in one day became with Sessegnon and Foyth as pair of full-backs, right?

The good thing is that we have options to do that (1FB acts as an auxiliary winger the other as an auxiliary CB)

Combos could be Jan LB/CB, Moussa RB/W
Danny Rose LB/LW Foyt RB/RCB
Sess LB/LW Toby RB/RCB (has played there for Belgium and often acts as Davies did yesterday when we are playing bus parkers and he finds himself quite advanced on the right side.

Good option to have while Dier is still finding his form and fitness (and hopefully mobility) giving us a bit more cover across the back line when countered on.

And with Son so good coming in off either side you can simply put him on the opposite side as the RB/RW or LB/LW.
Could also mean that on the side of the attacking FB you can play a No10 like Lamela/Lo Celso, even Alli or (god forbid ;) ) Eriksen, giving them license to come inside more and still have options either side. It certainly opens up a lot of possibilities.

Using it could possibly even mean we can forgo the need for a DM in some games.

I'm weary of making assumptions off the back of one game, but if yesterday was the template then Sessegnon could do well with the full backs being switched around (defensive RB).

Either way, it would take one signing to make things work. A really offensive RB to replace Serge or a quality dribbler to replace Moura. As good as Moura can be, Son plays that role so much better and is a real hybrid of the two.

I'm sure Jose will have picked which side of West Ham was the weaker defensively (or better offensively) to know which side needed more protection and and which would be more fruitful to attack.

Interesting to see how he implements it going forward.

While I think he could do a job at fullback or winger, I just get this feeling Sess (at his current age) is going to be a winger for us. He's got all the attributes to develop into a top winger - pace, dribbling, creativity, finishing; but I think most of all Jose is going to love his physicality and work rate. For this reason I think he'll find a way off the bench and onto the field regardless of the game's current situation, whether we're in hunt for a goal or attempting to protect a lead.

If that was the case he got it all wrong.
As Creswell/Anderson is 10x better than Fredericks and Yarmolenko. So that doesn’t really hold up

He didn’t get it wrong, Yarmolenko (dangerous player) was anonymous all game and for us both Davies and Aurier had very good games. Barring the last 20 mins were our energy levels dropped, we were cruising to victory for the previous 70 mins.

That wasn’t my point. Just that Creswell Anderson is better so it should have been Foyth/Rose going be that logic stated above.

Could well be, just use Foyth as the 3rd CB when attacking.
Very interesting. I've noticed since Mourinho has become coach that we have been linked to centre backs rather than right backs. Maybe it's for this reason. Mourinho happy with Aurier, Foyth at RB and Davies, Sessegnon at LB? Aurier and Sessegnon as wing backs and Davies and Foyth as the 3rd centre backs? Also means with Dier in CM and Foyth RB that we're light at CB hence the need for Ruben Dias?

I'm not totally against the idea of using him as a wide man in a rotation with Son & Lucas. That would free up money we would spend up front on a badass LB like Chilwell or something.

The Athletic:

Another reason for Mourinho to be cheerful is that he finally has the chance to coach Ryan Sessegnon, having repeatedly tried to sign the teenager from Fulham while in charge at United.

I saw that this morning on my 'The Athletic' feed ... I'd love to know where the journalist got that from as I cannot recall any link between Jose and United and Sessegnon. It's not backed up with quotes or anything either. And if true, why leave him out of the match-day squad (when he provides the only real cover for the WFs) and have Foyth, Rose and KWP on the bench? I hope Mourinho is a big fan but I doubt it.
