Whilst i agree he should have got something, the fact that Fernandez has just got away with it all absolutely stinks, especially what he did actually came from a place of malice
FIFA are supposedly still investigating that - for what it’s worth at least. They could still impose a ban on him like they did Suarez for biting at the World Cup.

They probably won’t cause they’re flimsy as fuck and Argentina are FIFA’s golden goose as long as Messi’s playing so won’t want to weaken Argentina when they’re still the biggest draw at any of their tournaments for the time being.

Zero consistency. What is the point?

Chelsea decided not to take disciplinary action against Fernández after his apology at a team meeting and he was made the club’s captain in August.

Chelsea essentially saying " Keep it up " to Enzo with those decisions

I'd say there's much more chance that your comment comes from a place of malice than Enzo's actions, but I don't know and you don't know, do you?

Much as it pains me to defend Enzo, especially in this context, what he did much more likely came from a place of lack of education and repetition of a backward and disgustingly still prevalent cultural trope.

It's was a song meant to mock others, which they sang jeeringly. How is that not malicious?

Not understanding the weight of the words could be from a lack of education, or ignorance, but that's part of the problem. So not sure what you are defending really.

Yeah, not sure why I'm spending my Saturday morning defending Enzo either, it was just that your comment struck me as unfair, since you don't know Enzo and can't say he decided to sing that song to express his racist views, which is how the phrase 'from a place of malice' came across.

Neither of us know, unless you're a friend of his, but I'd be very surprised if he meant to be racist. The song was meant to mock others, yes, but knowing Argentine culture as I do since I've lived here for twenty years, in a football banter, we won, you lost way, not in a racist way.

The problem is that Argentine culture is still way behind in terms of eradicating racism, misogyny, anti-LGBTQIA+, etc. (I'm sitting here watching West Ham v Brighton and the commentator has already distinguished three players for being left-footed, and not one for being right-footed - which, of course, is 'normal' - all sorts of differences between people are routinely used here to describe people without a bat of an eyelid) and that is unfortunately blatantly clear in the football culture which Enzo has grown up in.

Every time I go to the stadium I have to leave out lines in about half of the songs that are sung, so I don't find myself inciting violence, promoting anti-LGBTQIA+ attitudes etc. and it's a sorry state of affairs here, and FIFA / Chelsea dealing with the Enzo situation better would definitely have been a step in the right direction, but I'd be surprised if Enzo decided to sing that song from a place of malice, is all.

Bentancur also South American and his remark is a lot less than what Enzo said. Just a throwaway remark which has been said plenty of times in this country.
If he had said that after joining up with Uruguay nothing would have happened. The FA are quite pathetic . Wanting to punish players for next to nothing, but happy to support the Saudi bid for the World Cup.

Even when they put Inter Miami into the Club World Cup which they didn’t actually qualify for. DAZN tv contract apparently paid for by the Saudis.
What an utter shower of shite these people are.

I love Bentancur and think he is a brilliant player. It feels like him returning to the side is now looking very important over what will be a very busy and difficult period for the side. I hope he can stay fit and show everybody what a good player he is over the next few weeks. God knows we need him.

He was shit against Rangers. Most of the team were to be fair but I was hoping for a good performance from him at least given the amount of rest he’s had.

A lot of rest also means he will be lacking in match sharpness - so it will likely take him 2 or 3 games to get up to speed but as you say, the rest his body will have had should hopefully help maintain his fitness going forward.

Maybe if you’ve been out for a few months but a few weeks? Not for me, maybe a slight bit of rustiness but he looked pretty bad. Maybe I’m being too harsh on him though. I rate him as a player but do have doubts given his injury record recently. Hopefully that’s all behind him now.

I feel Bentancur is the ultimate "big game" player and I feel he is often poor when we are the bigger team and expected to win.

From my point of view, Bents and Biss have always been guilty of complacency, they both seem to want to put their foot on the ball and slow things down as though that’s their job as playmakers. But Ange doesn’t want playmakers .

Really hope he is on it against Forest. With their form this will be such a tough game, but a win would be huge.

A lot of people point go out defence, but most of the games have been decided on the up and down performances of our midfield. When on it and we move the ball well and beat the press, opponents don't have much against us. When the midfield are ill disciplined positionally it exposes the defence and when we give the ball away cheaply, it really costs us.

I still think Bentancur is the best we have, he is more consistent than Bissouma and unsurprising our form dropped with him banned.

We are 3-1-3 with Bentancur starting in the league. 14-9 goal differential.

4-1-5 when he does not start. 25-16

I am not sure I would say he is the reason our form dropped…nor would I expect an upturn simply because he returns. It’s going to take a team effort.

People have short memories. In the last 5 games before he got suspended he was making the no 6 role his own and looked absolutely class being close to MOTM virtually every game.

I accept before that he didn't look that great but there was a really noticeable upturn in his performances close to when he got suspended and he kept Bissouma out of the team.

Hoping he comes straight back in with those performances as our defence needs it.
