The Enzo one is ridiculous. It doesn't matter if someone is on international duty. You either clamp down on it or not. What sort of message does it send out? Its kick racism out of football. Not kick racism out of club football, but if you're on international duty not our problem.
We play Chelsea during Bentancur's ban. Absolutely nailed on that Enzo influences that game in some way just to rub it in a little bit more.

If he played for Liverpool, Man City, Man Utd, Arsenal or Chelsea he would have got a max 3 game ban, we have to appeal.

Maybe someone here can explain why the FA felt the need to get involved when he wasn't even on club duty at the time? I get the need for a ban/punishment, but a club domestic ban didn't make sense to me.

I think this was explained a couple of pages back. But the gist of it is that Bentancur hadn’t signed in for international duty at the point the interview was done. So because of that he falls under the FAs jurisdiction. Meanwhile Fernandez gets off Scott free because he was signed in.

To be honest I've been away on holiday and tried not to come on here as part of it, so missed the majority of everything.
Thank you.

This is why we need to take racism with more seriousness at spurs and why we shouldn’t have appealed the ban.

I agree, except for the inconsistency as with all things in football with which this has been applied. Fine, give him the 7 game ban, but don't let Enzo and Chelsea of all clubs, get away with racism because of a technicality. Racism is racism. Punish all equally. In fact if anything Enzo should have a worse punishment as I would argue his misdemeanor is more damning.

This is why football and the premier league as a competition is a joke these days. Utterly inconsistent across the board. Inconsistent on the pitch with officiating, inconsistent with its pathetic application of FFP, allowing loopholes and hotel selling by the likes of Chelsea, and inconsistent now with this.

In a game of fine margins consistency is paramount but we get none...

I don’t see what appealing a ban has to do with taking racism seriously. Bentancur has apologised, the victim has accepted the apology, the ban is excessive based on previous bans.

Hypothetically, if he’d been given a year out would you have the same opinion about appealing?

This is not a good example. Twitter is a disgusting cesspit of bellends, bots, and bonkers.

I understand your concern. But this does not serve your point.

Sorry, but I am feeling particularly heated about this today. Racist actions and comments affect not just individuals but races, communities and cultures (two large swastikas daubed on walls near my daughter’s house overnight). I think we need to act fast and hard or it quickly leaches into the fabric of society, and kind of gains subconscious support. Rant over.

Agree. Have to really confront racism (even “low-key”) everywhere. Even in 20fucking24
