Seems long but again he was an idiot for saying what he did.

God help us in the meantime.

Why has it taken them so long to do this? It's not like there's been new evidence, the "evidence" was the video that everyone saw at the same time over the Summer. On the one hand it definitely feels like they've been keeping it in their pocket to announce it at a time that inconveniences us as much as possible but on the other, I guess he'll be back for the games over Christmas (back to face Liverpool at home on December 22nd unless I'm mistaken) so it could be worse (assuming the ban has actually been decided and starts against City after the break).

Say racist things you going to get done. Please lads don't be like some other fan bases and bitch about the length of time he's banned for, don't do the whataboutery. He was fucking stupid to do what he did and now he's made the club suffer from it.
Another fucking player who has let us down but least most of the others only do it on the pitch
Ain’t got a problem with the ban. I do have a problem with the time it’s taken to come to a decision. Absolutely fucking ridiculous. They have literally had months.

he's an idiot for saying it, and a ban now or in August or next year is irrelevant. he shouldn't have done what he did.

the bits that gets me is shits like Enzo getting away scott-free not things not too disimilar at all.

as ever with the FA, where is the consistency?

I might be imagining this but I'm sure I heard there was some bullshit excuse that Enzo was away on International duty at the time so couldn't be punished by the FA, whereas Bentancur was technically still "with his club" as the Copa America hadn't started yet.

Absolute bullshit decision. Stupid comment, yes, but absolutely no malice intended and all sorted between those involved at the time. Players who have said far worse and with malice have got away with less of a punishment. Bullshit decision.

Maybe I’m from a different age group . Can’t help but feel it’s just ludicrous banning someone for an off the cuff comment that appeared on video. I think the world has gone mad digging people out for comments on social media . Such as David Coote etc etc etc . It’s obviously ill advised but Son and Bentancur don’t seem to have an issue with it do they so what’s the problem . Check out racism in Eastern Europe , Spanish football ? A whole crowd can throw bananas at black players and the club get fined about £1.40

lol, what you talking about, you can’t have referees going around, clearly off their nut, saying what a **** certain managers are.

It's a harsh ban, there's no arguing that. What he said was stupid and mildly racist, but not purposeful in its intent to offend.

Should he get a ban - yes, but 7 games is excessive based on what he said and his actions afterwards.

The way I see it, no one would be moaning if he got a 3 match ban and while double that does sting it is what it is. Just got to suck it up. I’m sure Bentancur has learned from it.

I pretty much agree, but a big part of the issue seems to be that in calling Klopp a ****, and an absolute ****, he also called him a German ****.

Which seems to meet the FAs definition for racism (I don't think it should) based on the fact they banned a Wrexham supporter for 3 years for calling Tranmere Rovers fans 'English bastards' (which is also stupid in my opinion).

Maybe, if he'd not used the German bit, he might have just been suspended for a long time or something - but I think that sadly his career is over instead.

The issue is they want to be seen as doing more to tackle racism but they've gone a bit too far the other way

As a reminder, John Terry received a 4 game ban for racially abusing an opponent during a league match under FA jurisdiction. Caught on camera for good measure.
So if Bentancur receives a 7 game ban for making a racist comment on an overseas holiday, that sounds absolutely plausible.
Making it up as they go along.

Why isn't there then a statutory ban for this specific law violation? If they deliberately want to keep it vague and therefore bring their judgment into it, how on earth can they compare the above 2 situations and come to this conclusion?

How long ago was the Terry thing? No use referencing stuff that happened years ago like the Suarez thing as times have moved on.

How so? Who gets to decide there is inflation or punitive measures for each offence?

And Terry’s was after Suarez so if it’s a deterrent measure he should’ve got more.

It may be years ago but it’s ‘legal’ precedent as far as the FA is concerned so of course it can be used within this argument.

Am I right in saying, this all came about during an interview where he was asked for one of Sonny's shirts, and Bents response was he could have his cousins cause they all look the same? Surely the all look the same was a reference to the shirt not the people? Cause that's how I read it.
