So between internationals.

It's a technicality as he never rejoined the club between those and remained in Uruguay.

When did the team join up for the Copa America as their first game was only 9 days later.
I've not been able to find that info out, but Argentina stayed together after their friendly 15th June.

I didn’t realise he was on international duty or just in between fixtures for Uruguay, I thought he was on holiday.
Thinking back though didn’t he get a ban for throwing a bottle or something in the crowd after a copa America game?
I’ve said it all along, this is complete nonsense and none of it justifies a domestic ban out of the domestic season, especially when you look at that mob down the road with Enzo and what he is getting away with.

The Match against Mexico was in the United States (And Copa was played in the US last summer) - so that makes me think 2 things, first, that was a warmup for Copa, and Bentancur was with the Team until the end of Copa; and, 2, the interview looked like he was home - meaning it was probably taped before he turned up for National Team duty, but did not air, until later.

It does feel like a reach. Enzo was officially on international duty so it was a FIFA/CONMEBOL
thing and the FA couldn't touch it but Bentancur wasn't so the FA just automatically have jurisdiction even though he was on the other side of the world in the middle of the Summer break? He "did the crime" so to speak so if there's punishment he and we will just have to suck it up but it seems mad that the FA can just seemingly arbitrarily decide to punish him. I'd get it if he'd done the interview in the UK during the season but it feels like these players never have any time to themselves.

I thought Bentancur wasn't on international duty and the reason Enzo couldn't be punished by the FA was that he was.

That’s what I thought and how it came across initially but quite a few guys are now saying otherwise.
The longer it goes on for though the more I hope the club kick up a stink.

I don't believe that's it. Was listening to a podcast where they said that Enzo's was an unofficial mobile phone recording, whereas Bentancurs was an official TV interview. The difference being one was mean for personal consumption and the other for public consumption. (i don't agree with this y the way, but that's what they said)

It's all a bit mad isn't it... stuff like this getting into fine details about who is dishing out punishments. I kinda detracts from the fundamental idea of not tolerating racism.

I'm not one for the nanny state or anything, but if the FA want to promote an anti-racism campaign then it would make sense to punish players regardless of the timing/location of what they have done, and regardless of who else might have dished out a punishment. Otherwise they are effectively saying "we don't mind how racist you are between the following dates".

This feels like a process that would benefit from being simplified, although I'm speaking as a white male living in the UK, so I do appreciate that my views on racist behaviour come from a pretty coddled place.

You would think that the fact he didn't even come off the bench would mean there is no imminent ban... :cautious:

When is his ban decision then? He is a key part of why we are playing so well at the moment, really hope we find out soon and hope its not bloody 10 games, 5-6 we could deal with if Biss can keep up his decent recent form but anything 6-10 game ban would be a tough pill to swallow.

I‘m still not happy with him playing as the only central midfielder. Even in the first half yesterday he lost posession. He was beaten far too easily, especially before the third goal.

Goes back to the summer recruitment. A proper #6 was crucial.

I've always liked Bentancur's style, but I feel like we're going to have this conversation about him every 3 or 4 games if he keeps being played as the 6. He can "do a job" there, as he's shown against Brentford and United, but he certainly isn't made for the role.

I worry that unless Postecoglu changes things up a bit we'll never find the best positions for Bentancur, Bissouma and Sarr, and we're just wasting their skill sets. They'll always float between being a CDM, which none of them are suited too, and the Maddison/Deki role, which none of them are creative enough for.
