If I had to guess - Bentancur has been hit with a lengthy ban - more than 3 games, maybe even close to the 12 game max.

But, the club or the player are currently appealing. And, so the ban has not been announced while they appeal.

FA typically does not take long to issue a punishment after a player's deadline for responding to charges. This is why I think they have already issued the ban. I think its lengthy, because if it were something like 3 games - I imagine its easier to just get on with that, and the hassle of an appeal is not worth it.

A long ban makes an appeal much more likely, as you really have nothing to lose, and a lot to gain by a successful appeal.

OK but it's not quite as simple as that. We have had the video / insta post. That looks fucking awful. Then the, what seems like, very genuine apology and the word from our skipper. BUT this cannot go unpunished simply for the optics regardless of what has happened elsewhere at that horrible morale-less club. This ban needs to be made and announced. I don't want it but the statement needs to be there.
I won’t just slap a disagree and run.

I disagree with the intensity of your sentiment.

If this is your interpretation of ‘fucking awful’ overt racist/bigoted behavior, then I’m really confused. I have either been victim of, witnessed, read about, seen awful, heard first hand accounts and acts of bigoted behavior. One thing they all have in common is intent. Especially when the intent is malice and distress.

What he said was ignorant, stupid, and insensitive. Though if you think hitting him with a ‘statement’ ban will make a difference in terms of the world and will show the FA means business… I’m afraid it likely won’t have the impact youd like to see happen.

Should he be punished? In some way. But I really don’t know to what extent. It’s all subjective.

But do I think what he did shouldn’t be labeled as ‘fucking awful’… based on my life experiences, that feels harsh. like…. ‘Cancel him’ harsh.

That makes sense, but a lengthy ban (like 6 games plus) seems ridiculously harsh

Oh I agree completely. I just don't think anyone wastes time appealing a 3 game ban - almost better to get that done now, when he can still play mid-week in Europa - or eat up one of the games in the League Cup.

I thought he was with the Uruguay team for the Copa America when the comments were made?
Their first Copa game was 24th June and the comments appeared around the 20th June. (Well that is when we made an official statement)

They also had a game at the beginning of the month so at worst he was on a break between international genres for/in Uruguay when the comments were made.

Stinks either way.

So between internationals.

It's a technicality as he never rejoined the club between those and remained in Uruguay.

When did the team join up for the Copa America as their first game was only 9 days later.

I would guess the team stayed together with the Mexico match intended as a tune-up for Copa

I hope whatever happens, that it works to our advantage. Maybe him getting one Europa game a week for a while is not a bad thing to really get him up to speed.

I do wonder if the interview was given at an earlier time - and only aired in June.

That would be a bit of a technicality - on when Bentancur actually made the statement.

I dont think the FA can ban him, as mentioned above - its not their jurisdiction when he's on international duty, so therefore they're powerless to do so.

I suspect that issue has been explored and argued by our legal department, hence nothing coming to light - yet.

I dont think he'll be serving a ban for PL games.

Not fully up to speed with this but if they have no jurisdiction to ban why did they charge him??

They obviously believe its their place to do so and have the power to do so.

I assume thats what we're challenging.

We’re all just speculating here. But given he was on international duty, and that was the reason they didn’t charge Enzo, then I’d say that’s what this is all about. And rightly so.

6 game ban for Uruguay would go down well
He is already banned from Uruguay - separate issue - can't recall the penalty, maybe 4 games?

ETA - yeah 4 games, with I think covered the September and the upcoming October international breaks, but I did not check to see if Uruguay actually had any scheduled matches - I assume they did.

Actually - looks like Uruguay had 3 matches in the September break, and so Bentancur could get called in this upcoming break to play in the 2nd match - against Ecuador on 15 October.
