I thought the ruling in his sanctions was late last week ? Strange we haven't heard anything yet ...

Not sure the club would want to be seen appealing this, even though it’s a disgrace that Fernandez has got away with it due to reasons
May not be wise for the club to appeal, but if I were Bentancur I’d be there with full legal representation making clear that if they ban him while letting Fernandez off scott free, I’d be taking it all the way to CAS.

Sorry for being an idiot again…. But from what I recall, his ban does not include Europa games, right? At least if he can play in those he will be able to stay close to the team and keep match fit.

That said, I can also fully understand if some feel that the size and length of his ban is fully justified and he really should be taking a seat for ten to twelve weeks.

Stupid thing to say these days........but 10 - 12 games?????
That was the rumour of the higher extent of the ban when it was announced.
I believe he would be available for Europe so presumably would be an ever present if fit in this group stage one would expect.

Not having it and if they come out with that length of ban I hope the club appeal it purely on the Fernandez basis.
You can’t have Lolo banned for that length of time for comments made close season and Fernandez getting away with what he was chanting just because they don’t want to upset Chelsea and have said they won’t do anything because he was on international duty.
If the Argentinian FA don’t want to punish Fernandez then they have the ability to do so if they really wanted to

I see where you’re coming from, but really, why wouldn’t they if they felt it was unfair?

Compare it to A red card for violent conduct. Imagine someone got a 6 game ban for the supposed severity of the offence. We might disagree with that, as we don’t agree on the severity.

In that scenario, we’re not condoning violent conduct any more than we’re condoning racism if he gets a harsh punishment (that we appeal).

At the moment, people seem afraid to discuss racism or challenge elements of it because it’s sensitive. I understand that - it’s an important topic and should not be belittled. And yet, nor should we not discuss it if we feel we’ve been wrongly treated.

His response was due last week.

I imagine, if he has good representation, his response showed contrition, an acknowledgement of the inappropriateness - and his efforts to make things right with Sonny, and Sonny's response.

None of that makes what he said right, or appropriate. But, it also gives the FA a way out - and determining that a lengthy ban would serve no purpose. And avoids what they now probably see as a discrepancy with the Enzo Fernandez situation - pursuing one but not the other.

So, hopefully, this is taking time to play-out behind the scenes.

Or, the alternative is, they issued their ruling to Bentantur and the club last week and one or the other (or both) have appealed the ruling, and thus it has not been publicly announced until the appeal process has played out.

If Enzo was on international duty, Lolo certainly wasn’t on club duty.

My feeling is that he will get three. If we're using a scale here, this was on the lower end - what you might call casual racism rather than a deliberate attempt to cause offence. He deployed a trope, rather than using any of the highly offensive words or symbols. He apologised swiftly, and by all accounts profusely. I'd imagine it will come with another three matches suspended, and probably a requirement to attend some form of training course.

I wonder if he did in fact issue a response but that it was really in depth and highlighted a myriad of differing cases with differing sanctions imposed. Maybe this is why there has been no formal response from the FA as they need to find a 'suitably acceptable' ban that both punishes Bentancur, but also discourages an appeal and the case dragging on.
As an example, 3 games would be seen as fair by many and also probably not worth appealing for Bentancur and the club

Very impressed with his defensive responsibilities lately. Playing a bit like Carrick in that he sort of goes unnoticed a lot because of how well he's doing the job.

Shame about this impending ban, guys such a fucking classy player. Does everything with ease and simplicity that it actually goes under the radar how important he is.
