Hope he's back soon. He looked good last night, just run out of steam a bit which is understandable. Would love to see him and Gray mainly as the 6s.

Feel really sorry for him.

He's not even injury-prone, in the sense that his body keep failing him with random injuries.

He got an ACL which can happen to any player, then he was the victim of a horrible tackle from Matty Cash and now a big knock to the head.

Hoping we get a positive update on him today.

Does the league have a concussion protocol?
Does a player have to pass certain benchmarks in order to be cleared to play?
Or is that entirely up to team medical staff to clear a player as eligible?

There was I believe a minimum lay off period of 2 weeks for a concussion, but I'm not sure if that is still the case. These things change all the time.

I think it's 21 days before he can play, with 14 days until he can resume full training (with tackling, heading etc rather than just non-contact stuff)

Had this same disucssion with someone at the pub yesterday. He can't be considered injury "prone" because it's not like a niggling hamstring or something like Sess battled with in recent years. Three totally freak/nasty injuries

International break should help here. Obviously out for Everton and Newcastle but two weeks from there until next game.

I remember Romero coming off first game against Brentford last season which was a Sunday. He played the next game against Utd which was 6 days later. I thought there was an automatic period players had to miss but at the time Sky said he had satisfied testing.
Not sure if it makes a difference Bentancur's was classified as a concussion sub though because if i recall, Romero's wasnt.

Difference is Romero carried on so was hurt but not quiet right, Bentancur was clearly out cold and down for some time
I think Romero was just taken off as a precaution whereas Bentancur was a clear concussion

It’s actually possible to get knocked out and not get a concussion. Just as it’s possible to get a concussion from a seemingly small head bump.

Definitely very likely a concussion though.

Nasty one that. Looks like he's out cold before he hits the deck so couldn't protect himself from the fall either. Best wishes to him for a quick recovery. Was looking good too.

Apparently less than 10% of knock outs result in a concussion.

edit, citation:

Many people assume that you can only get a concussion if you're knocked unconscious. But while getting knocked-out can be a sign of concussion, it only happens in less than 10 percent of cases. Everyone should know what to look for in a concussion in order to protect themselves and their loved ones.”

It's similar to the comments about Kane having "weak ankles", even though the sprains were just unfortunate.

Odd that the club haven't issued an update on this
In most cases, injury recovery timeframes can be estimated far more accurately after the immediate aftermath, so it's really not odd for a club to take some time to assess the situation before making any public statements on it.
Fans / media often speculate that injuries must be serious simply because a club declines to provide an update on the expected return date within the first few days. Yet the medical team often can't properly assess an injury (even a really simple one) until some of the initial inflammation has subsided.

What motivation does the club have to rush to issue an update on this?
If he ends up being available sooner than the club's medical team would currently predict, his "early" return would come under scrutiny (how club's deal with head injuries receives a lot of scrutiny in general). If he ends up being out for longer, it could be detrimental to morale (teammates and fans), plus would put more of a spotlight on Bentancur when he does eventually return (commentators looking for any signs that he might not be quite 100% and potentially "seeing" things that aren't there).

Still remember when I went to the home game against Villa and he just popped up in the first team. Probably the one player we didn't want to miss at this point with Bissouma likely to be dropped for a while. Otherwise it's a bit of pressure on Gray if he starts there. Seems to be the only other one suited to the 6 role. Maybe he'll start and have a great game , then we see him as the solution in midfield rotating with Bentancur as the 6.

I think you’re reading that stat backwards. It’s saying that only 10% of concussions come from situations where someone is knocked out, not that only 10% of people who are knocked out have concussions.
