Maybe we're not convinced he'll get to the levels he was at pre-injury. Still, think i'd rather move Bissouma on.

Please, let’s not rehash this. It’s in the thread and the internet more widely.
I agree that it's been done to death but I don't recall any itk about a backlash?
I am old and usually drunk though...

I think it would be a good time to move him on.

Hes been good without pulling up any tree's.

I remember him having a meltdown when he was subbed off back end of last season and that would have been noted by Ange.

Ange was asked about it and said he wasn’t bothered.

I don’t know when a player showing a bit of passion, like he did when he was taken off vs City, became a bad thing.

Personally I enjoyed watching it, we’d lost about 4 in a row at the time and he was clearly disappointed that he’d not been at his best, why would you not want the player to show he cares at that point? A thousand times better than laughing with the opposition after the game like most of them do now.

He's obviously got a lot of quality, we just need to get him back to full fitness and sharpness which will hopefully be soon. It would be silly not to give him a full season to get back to his best before deciding to ship him out.

Bentacur is the only player that gives our midfield any fluidity, the idea of selling him sounds absolutely mental to me.

It's a strange one. Around a year ago, there was a broad consensus here that Bentancur was one of the best central midfielders in the world. And certainly the best midfielder at Tottenham. The club might have insights we don’t, suggesting his injury is so serious that he’s no longer capable of playing at this level. Still, it’s difficult to understand how fans could come to that conclusion so quickly. He only returned from injury around January, I think.

Is it really though? Son incident + bottle incident = frothing outragers. We've seen it already, even on this very site. Some were clear that they'd happily see the back of him after this summer. I don't agree.

Yeah, I’ve been noticing this more lately—players can go from being seen as world-class to needing to be sold within just a few months. Everyone has their opinions, which is fine, but it seems like there’s this temptation to adopt a very strong view on everything.

With Bentancur, we don’t really have enough evidence to say whether he can return to his best form. We only saw him play for a few months last season, which isn’t enough to make a definitive judgment imo. Maybe the club think he's spent, but that's just speculation. If he does manage to get back to his pre-injury form, though, he’d still be one of our top midfielders. Better than Hojbjerg and Skipp, who are still on the books, and at least on par with Bissouma and Sarr.

Is it the same people though? In the large part I doubt it. I'd imagine the truth is, as is with many things on the internet, there will be people that have always been more pro Bentancur and those who are less enthusiastic. You'll see more of each faction and they'll become more vocal depending on what he's done good or bad that week.

I agree with you, and I think you’re right in principle. However, with Bentancur, I believe many, if not most people, considered him an exceptional midfielder and even thought he might be our best player overall. It didn’t seem like he was a divisive figure the way some other players are, or even the way Ange has been at times.

Thought Rafa was more because his Mrs wanted to go back to Germany for her career, so he basically followed the pussy?!
(Sorry, I know that's a bit crude but we've all done it).
Pretty sure he’s said in an interview that the reason he left was due to AVB told him that he’s not going to be starting in the team.

Agree with the majority here. Bentancur has looked top top class for us at times and I'd be gutted to sell him. If it's something Ange is willing to do then I'd reluctantly accept it however.

We have been through a period of technical poverty in CM which really made him stand out however. With the likes of Gray and Bergvall (plus Donley, Devine and Hall) coming through I feel we are much better equipped in that sense, and if Eze comes in to replace Bentancur I think we be more than fine.

He's a great competitor and turns up in big games, so I'd rather he stayed and we built around him, but I also think we can absorb the blow more now than ever before.

I have a feeling that Ange has spent the last 12 months looking at the squad and pretty much working out who can leave for the right price and who is basically untouchable.

Bentancur might be in the former category, as much a lot of us may not like it.

I guess we will see.

As much as i love the guy, in terms of his ability, I dont know if he will ever show the same level of ability and consistency as pre injury.
As it stands he can't even cemment a place as a starter for Uruguay, nevermind us
