To be fair, I think it's usually coins and lighters that do the damage, plastic bottles, even when full aren't particularly dangerous.
Again, that's not to excuse anybody throwing anything because it's all ****ish behaviour but even a paper airplane could take someone's eye out! 😁
Hard ice could probably do the trick as well.

But sure, as someone said, it's not as if Bentancur threw explosives into the crowd. But that's not really my point.

I just think it's ridiculous how many on here are accusing people of being on high horses etc. and pretending he didn't do a stupid thing (again), when most on here would call themselves idiots if they were doing the same. And most of us aren't representing our country and one of the biggest football clubs in Europe. What he did has to be as close to an objectively stupid thing there is?

Some go, "yeah, but the overreactions...". What overreactions? I've seen a few (very, very few) wanting him sold, but people wanted that before his mistakes of late, so I don't see how that's unexpected at all. It's not like things haven't been adding up for those on the fence about him, so reacting now seems very reasonable.

Personally, I don't want him sold, and I believe he is a genuinely good guy who's been affected by his struggles the last couple of years and thus lost his footing a bit. But people still have to be able to call out objectively sucky behaviour.

Now you're being a bit silly, I think it's been universally agreed that he's been stupid.

Granted, there have been overreactions on both sides but this is just fanning the flames again, adding nothing to anything.
Fair comment. I think I just get tired of how conversations seem to go nowadays.

It doesn't seem to matter what the subject matter is, the same baseless nonsense gets put out.

"I can't believe everyone is saying this." You then read the thread and there are pretty much no posts that have put the poster into a state of disbelief.

"I can't believe people are offended by this." You then read the thread, and no posts suggest offence has been taken.

We have a forum where you can actually respond to what people are saying. I'm just confused at the amount of posts that follow the above.

It's like we're not capable of listening and responding to the words said anymore. We just make up the reaction of that famed "other side" then counter the thing we've just made up.

Yep, there are balanced views and discussions and then just the ones with nothing better to add than "huh, snowflakes."

I completely agree.
Most of the angst in this thread has been more down to people accusing others of overreacting, than any actual overreaction.

The general view is that Bentancur has made himself look a bit of a dick of late and needs to have a word with himself, or the club need to have a word with him.

As usual on the internet, the extremes take the headlines and end up making arguments where there aren't any.

You know if a fan throws a plastic bottle that hits someone and is caught doing so they are extremely likely getting a total football banning order, and definitely getting a stadium ban as a bare minimum
Never heard of anyone banned for that. I'm not saying it's not wrong though, just that it's not as dangerous as people suggest.

This thread is pretty much a microcosm of what twitter is like these days.
OK, be honest... Who else had to Google the definition of "microcosm"? 🙄😁

For info...
a community, place, or situation regarded as encapsulating in miniature the characteristics of something much larger.
"the city is a microcosm of modern Malaysia"

Think the club might look at the issues that have happened recently and feel that he might bring some unwanted press negativity.
That doesn’t impact the team playing but it does impact its marketing ability to introduce new fans globally and that type of hit can be one they want to get rid of.

it’ll be interesting to see any stories coming out about him transferring clubs. It’ll also make the “over bloated midfield” dilemma have a new spin for the click hungry journos out there.
Tf is this off topic?

Could just be a fat finger. Or could be someone looking for a negative rating in response to your intimation that he might be sold just because of some 'Latin American over-excitedness'.

I wouldn't give it a moments thought.

An injustice on the fan seeing as it was Matty Cash. :cautious:
If i remember the case correctly when the trial started the judge turned to the defendant and just said, "I have brought you here today to thank you for your service."
Then he was given a guard of honour from the Jury out of the trial with an all expenses paid trip to Alton Towers.

I was there as i used to be a Pro Bono lawyer...

Always hated the edge though :cautious:

I definitely remember an Everton fan in court for throwing a plastic bottle that hit Matty Cash.
Thing is it's not that I'm saying you don't get punished and Bentancur will along with the others. I'm just saying the punishment should fit the action. If someone got a lifetime ban for throwing a plastic bottle that would be over the top. If they got a fine, a short term ban or some community service that would make sense. It's a stupid thing to do but it's not as dangerous or as bad as is made out by some. I don't think anyone is suggesting it's ok or it isn't wrong.
