I’m hoping he gets back to being one of the best midfielders in the prem and has a belter of a season for us. Time to support him, we are too quick to condemn.
I am not condemning him. Just an observation. In his last 10 appearances, 6 starts, and only lasted 60 minutes on 3 occasions. We continue to be linked to CMs

I wonder if Ange is preparing to go in a different direction - already have Sarr and Bergvall who can play that position. If we brought in another CM, that would suggest Ange views it as a position to upgrade.

And that is before the incidents of this summer.

There is a reason why any event in general with large crowds is policed quite heavily. Mob mentality is a dangerous thing

I always thought all that drink throwing was a bit ridiculous at BoxPark during England games.

But now I understand all those people were just protecting their families.

According to Gimenez In this case the major issue was the complete lack of police which is why the players stepped in to defender their families.

I know what you mean, but if we are going to lose Hojbjerg and Skipp, it will take a while to bed the new players in. We will need to rely on players like Bentancur, Bissouma and Sarr next season.

Looking at the videos, there's no way he could've got from the pitch, up the packed stairs through the packed stand and into the melee to defend his family even if he wanted to, so I think calls of cowardice are way off the mark. If he really was worried about his family I can understand him thinking that is all he could do in that moment.
And it was reciprocal, there was loads of stuff being thrown. Nunes tried to throw a clear plastic water bottle and would have done so if it wasn't knocked from his hand.
It was a black bottle Bentacur threw, definitely bottle shaped, so more likely to contain water than ice. What smashed everywhere was not black, but white, suggesting the bottle didn't break but immediately fell after hitting the guy's head, with water splashing everywhere. Also, the guy he hit ducked down then stood up, not IMO an option for someone who has just been hit in the side of the head by a glass bottle thrown with a lot of force.
None of which excuses what he did, but it is tempering my reaction.

Which I understand why, I just didn't want to spell it out, but this is typical behaviour in South America, especially when it comes to the big tournaments!

The Euros isn't perfect but at least they properly plan for this stuff.

I think the club would be foolish to think about selling Bentancur. Last season was obviously injury ravaged but prior to that he was a World class presence in our midfield, box to box, solid defensively, could beat the press, progressed the ball forward and scored a few goals. I really hope we see that player again and feel he should be given the chance post injury to prove he can be back to his best

Does it not smash lol? Happy to be proven wrong here
I have been to games at that stadium many times Beer is sold in plastic and aluminum. containers which are dangerous in their own right if filled with liquid. If it is a glass bottle it would have likely been brought from outside. So it is possible But less likely making the video hard to interpret.

If it is a paper cup then it's one thing which would be stupid. It is anything more than a paper cup than it is like we'd be considered criminal and unnecessary Even if protecting family members

Hope the club have some plan in place for him when he returns. Had a few headlosses recently, could do with some support I think.

He wouldn’t have access to a glass bottle. As Sofla pointed out they only sell plastic bottles there, as is the case in any football ground in most of the developed world.

He went off injured, I would suggest that it was a bag of ice that he’d got to treat his injury that in the heat of the moment he lobbed into the crowd, that splits on impact showering the crowd with nothing more harmful that a few ice cubes. Stupid, yes, but it’s highly improbable it was a glass bottle, or glass drinking container.
