I dunno about that - think we needed someone who could keep the ball, shrug off a defender and move with it.

Thought he did really well, particularly with how long he's been out.
And Rodrigo was inches away from scoring an equalizer with our 9 men.

When he came on I had a feeling he would score, such is the poetic nature of football at times. Gutted he didn't as it would have been a wonderful return at home for him.

Excited to see what he can add to the team, not a direct replacement for Madders but is rather see him start on Saturday than Gio if Madders is out.

It's more about match fitness for him than anything else right now. I was worried seeing him come on with half an hour to go in such a stretched situation but coming through that half hour unscathed will have done him the world of good.

Gio is a myth, convinced the bloke doesn't actually exist and the person we see warming up with the subs is an actor.

The trade off of using Bentancur instead of Maddison in a 3 with Sarr and Biss may actually help us as we are going to need to be far more defensively solid while we’re lacking our first choice CB’s

I think Maddison’s ball retention and passing ability will be important. I think I’d bring Bentancur in for Sarr and have three very technical press resistant midfielders in there to try and control the game. Or maybe keep Sarr in for his legs and put Maddison in the front three and have him dropping into the 10 position from there and maybe have Son and Johnson as a threat in behind.

I just mean in the event that Maddison is injured for a longer period, if he’s available I wouldn’t drop him of course. Just saying that a more solid 3 in midfield may not turn out to be a bad thing in that event.

A few more games under his belt he probably would've finished that.

Again great to see him back out there, minutes in his legs is what he needs.

His performance might have been the best thing about today. Maybe too early to say but I was always worried that he wouldn't be the same player post injury.

I hope he gets deemed match fit for 90 mins soon. Realistically the only midfielder we have capable of filling madders creative role.
