I t
If he was that good you could excuse him being injured all the time but he’s literally the striker version of Lo Celso for us. Always injured and is slightly better than decent when he’s available. We should have told him he’d get no minutes behind Son and Solanke if he didn’t take a transfer this summer. You’d need to be absolutely world class to come even close to being excused for how injury prone this guy is.
I think the plan would have probably been. to use him infrequently this season. Not really to send a message to him but it would have made him realise he probably needs to move.

You can't really do what Chelsea did as he has a great attitude and it's probably better to let him realise on his own and gently.

That way we don't look bad either.

Can't really put blame on the club or him for there being no transfer.

He’s a waste of space.

I don’t mean that in a bad way, but fuck me he is injured all the time. He’s never available when we need him, and he’s literally a waste of a squad place.

60m!

Your mental state can have an impact on your physical well-being so maybe all the psychological issues are just catching up with is body and he’s now in a vicious cycle.

I can only imagine how the injuries are taking a toll on him mentally.

More often than not, it's a psychological issue that manifests in the body.
The pressure he (Richy) feels under reverberates through the body and accumulates in the weakest parts of his system. That's the fragility.
People who get recurring injuries tend to hold a lot of angst in their system.

This kind of work with the human mind (which I'm involved in) reveals these issues....but it's not widely known through sports just yet. They'll have a hunch that's why....but don't have the mechanisms to get to the core context he holds about himself.

So the S&C team can work as hard as they want on Richy's fitness and all his muscles....but it will do nought-all if they don't get to the root cause of his suffering.
The story he tells himself...about himself

And not many people can do that successfully, as it''s going one level deeper than beliefs.
Beyond the realms of psychologists and therapists.
Within football, if you have a broken story about yourself (at the very core of who you think you are) it's very hard to change that....as the awareness and expertise just don't (generally) exist within the game yet.
This is a really interesting post cheers. You say even a therapist couldn’t help so what would someone in this position do in order to heal themselves? Would it be some form of intensive psycho analysis multiple times a week for an extended period to work on their trauma and negative inner story about themselves? Or something else completely? It’s not clear from your post how they would go about healing.

I was going to predict that he'd be the surprise package of the season and be our top scorer with 20 plus goals. I'm a plonker. He'll be lucky to play about 20 times, let alone score 20 times.

This is hugely frustrating but I don't imagine for anyone mores than Ricky himself.
I really, really like him. Personally I think he isn abetter player than Solanke but we haven't really been bale to rely on him in anyway.

Its 2-3 games in to a likely 58+ game season. Long way to go yet.

Written in the stars that he’ll be another one sold for a fraction of the initial fee we paid having done very little for us. I like him and really hope he has a great season but just don’t see it if he’s perma crocked. If he won’t go to Saudi we’ll be taking a massive hit on him when he leaves.

I always felt it was a strange move as he’s never been prolific. Exactly why opportunistic signings to take advantage of another clubs financial position rarely work out. Hopefully these are a thing of the past for us now as they usually end up being far more costly further down the line.
He'll sit on the books for the rest of his contract with a couple of loans. Ridiculous that we paid so much for him.

Yes, he's good person etc. The injuries are genuinely incessant though.

Last season was his big chance for me. He had no competition for the lead striker role. It was his time to step up and make the role his own.

Not saying it’s his fault but he just can’t stay injury free which means we can’t rely on him.

My guess is he stays this season and we have the positives of 2 quality players for the 9 position but next season he’ll be off.

Never understood why we bought him or why we were prepared to pay so much for him.

I always thought he was Kane's replacement being bought a year in advance.
Terrible ‘scouting’ then, completely different type of player.

Really hope he can get his fitness back on an even keel.

Kane is irreplaceable. You can't blame scouting for not bringing in a unique world class striker.

Richi had a lot of solid attributes which culminated in him being called up to play number 9 for Brazil. None of us could have predicted he would be so unlucky with injuries which have screwed his progress.

We are where we are, and the best we can all hope for is he can get back to full fitness physically and mentally, so that even if he doesn't work out for us he will have a good resale value.

Just signed with CAA.

Not sure if he's totally binned off his agent Velasco or if its one if those partnership things.

But I wonder if his agent was pushing for him to go to Saudi and he didn't like it

Wouldn’t be at all surprised to see a new contract coming his way shortly. If that’s the case I’d very much see that as us protecting our investment as he currently has less than two years left on his contract (I think?)

We better not be offering any new contracts to players that are crocked more than they are available. He needs to put a run of availability together before we even think about it. I also think there is a one year option on Richy which would mean 3 years potentially.

He signed on a 5-year deal and has been here since 2022, so still has 3 years left.

tbh he should go Saudi for big money if he still can

Can’t stay fit, either is Brian unlucky or he needs to sort out his life off Field issues

Did you ever watch the podcast with Ben Foster saying that most players shouldn’t be injured and injury shouldn’t be so long if it’s not looking after themselves well enough off the field.

he could be unlucky or he could need a life style change, for example playing computer games in the evening as a cause of injuries

No chance , you can't sign a player to replace Kane while still here unless it's for someone who is still young and patient. Then you hope in a year they are ready to break out. Top players in their prime were never signing for us while Kane was still here. Richarlison was signed because we needed another striker. We spent a fair amount on Sanchez for a similar role in defence when we already had Vertonghen and Alderweireld. I think people look at his price and assume he was signed as a first choice. Proven strikers are just expensive. He was signed to be our Jota.
